Legends Round: The Wrestling Estate Fantasy Draft

Which names from yesteryear have been selected?

What if all the top wrestling companies in the world got together and said, “let’s blow the whole thing up and start from scratch?”

Eleven companies will then rise from the ashes, having a draft to determine how the best talent in the world will be divided up for the foreseeable future.

The draft will be conducted through email – 12 rounds. As far as the talent pool goes, all active wrestlers are available. Part-timers are usable, semi-retired wrestlers are not. (So Brock Lesnar and John Cena are fair game, Triple H, Undertaker and HBK are not.) For the purposes of this simulation, we will assume Roman Reigns does NOT have leukemia and Joey Janela’s leg is NOT broken. Some wrestlers can be taken as tag teams, but the caveat is that you have to use them in the same match.

At the end of the draft, we will also have a bonus 13th “legends” round, where you can draft one legend to appear on your show in any way you see fit. The only rule here is that the legend has to be in their present-day form, so you can’t get, for instance, Shawn Michaels from 1997. You won’t be able to draft Chris Jericho, though, as he will be able to appear on any of your shows without having to use a draft pick on him, kind of like as he does in real life, almost like a free space in bingo.

At the end of the draft, you will then submit a “2-3 hour” pay-per-view card to show how your talent would work together in your fictional wrestling company. We’ll run Twitter polls to let readers vote on who has the best roster and who created the most entertaining PPV.

Anthony Mahalis
World Wrestling Syndicate
Draft Pick #133: Sting
The Stinger will come out of retirement to combat any injustice that he deems to be happening. He will be the vigilante everyone loves. Even though he is old, it is still very cool to have the lights go out and have him appear out of nowhere with a baseball bat.

Calvin Gibbon
Champagne Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #134: Shawn Michaels
Three things that Shawn Michaels has in spades: bravado, charisma and showmanship. If HBK was in his prime today, he’d be a first-round pick for any wrestling company in the world. But even at 53 years old, The Heartbreak Kid still has a few big matches left in him and a few accolades yet to obtain. Champagne is honored to draft the showstopper!

Juan Bautista
Global Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #135: Scott Steiner
The big, bad Booty Daddy! Just like for your mom in bed, Scott has a lot left in the tank. Now holla if you hear me!

Sam Gladen
Deep South Wrestling
Draft Pick #136: Kevin Von Erich
I see no better way to cap off the incredible crew at DSW than bringing Kevin Von Erich home. The surviving member of the nuclear family unit that set the wrestling world on fire through the 70’s and early 80’s is also a WWE Hall of Famer. There isn’t a wrestling fan alive who wouldn’t want to see a Von Erich standing in the center of the squared circle again.

Steven Jackson
International Association Wrestling
Draft Pick #137: Haku
To close out the selections for IAW, I wanted to choose a wrestler who has honed his craft around the globe, is still able to perform at a high standard and has gained the respect of his peers through his dedication to the business. I see no other legendary wrestler fitting IAW better than Haku. Incredibly charismatic and legitimately tough, do not, I repeat, do not underestimate Haku! If you do, you may regret it!

Neal Wagner
Anarchy Wrestling
Draft Pick #138: The Undertaker
The Dead Man cometh. While he may only appear during WrestleMania and big occasions, Undertaker will be a mainstay within Anarchy and will bring his chaos with him. I mean, he can summon lightning with his fingers, what’s more chaotic than that? He will play a vigilante yet still demon character, kinda like Taker from 2004.

Chad Gelfand
Professional Wrestling Association (PWA)
Draft Pick #139: The Rock
The most “Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment” and one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, The Rock just being in my promotion would create a lot of buzz and intrigue. Plus, The Rock is young enough and in good enough shape where he has one more solid in-ring run left in him.

Team LeftJab
Gotham Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #140: Hulk Hogan
Although not an active wrestler anymore, just having the legendary Hulk Hogan on the roster is a plus in name value. Using him as a manager, bodyguard, GM, etc. is all on the table.

Jack Goodwillie
World Series of Wrestling
Draft Pick #141: Steve Corino
The King of Old School is back! Corino will be working on an open contract as an announcer in one of the new promotions, but he’ll also be able to operate as an on-screen character here in WSOW. What he’ll do is up in the air, but I have heard that he’s already been called in to act as a mediator for the brewing feud between Kevin Owens and PCO, two men he knows very well as a fellow Canadian. Whether Corino wants to lace up the boots one more time is entirely up to him.

Jenna Leigh
Sparkle Female Superstars
Draft Pick #142: Bret Hart
He’s my all-time favorite wrestler.

John Corrigan
SHOOT
Draft Pick #143: CM Punk
I thought for sure he would have been selected, so I was going to pick Haku, but Steven somehow stole him from me. Then I was going to shock the world and pick Charlie Haas to reunite the World’s Greatest Tag Team, but I can’t in good conscience choose Haas over Punk in a “legends” round.
