The Wrestling Estate Fantasy Draft: Round 6

The independent and international scenes are raided.

What if all the top wrestling companies in the world got together and said, “let’s blow the whole thing up and start from scratch?”

Eleven companies will then rise from the ashes, having a draft to determine how the best talent in the world will be divided up for the foreseeable future.

The draft will be conducted through email – 12 rounds. As far as the talent pool goes, all active wrestlers are available. Part-timers are usable, semi-retired wrestlers are not. (So Brock Lesnar and John Cena are fair game, Triple H, Undertaker and HBK are not.) For the purposes of this simulation, we will assume Roman Reigns does NOT have leukemia and Joey Janela’s leg is NOT broken. Some wrestlers can be taken as tag teams, but the caveat is that you have to use them in the same match.

At the end of the draft, we will also have a bonus 13th “legends” round, where you can draft one legend to appear on your show in any way you see fit. The only rule here is that the legend has to be in their present-day form, so you can’t get, for instance, Shawn Michaels from 1997. You won’t be able to draft Chris Jericho, though, as he will be able to appear on any of your shows without having to use a draft pick on him, kind of like as he does in real life, almost like a free space in bingo.

At the end of the draft, you will then submit a “2-3 hour” pay-per-view card to show how your talent would work together in your fictional wrestling company. We’ll run Twitter polls to let readers vote on who has the best roster and who created the most entertaining PPV.

John Corrigan
SHOOT
Draft Pick #56: Bobby Lashley
Forget his return to WWE. Let Paul Heyman wash away the stench of Lashley’s sisters and Lio Rush. The Boss is returning to his Impact roots, shining as the bad motherfucker that he truly is. His MMA record is 15-2, most of those wins occurring in Bellator and Strike Force. He’s a natural for SHOOT.

Jenna Leigh
Sparkle Female Superstars
Draft Pick #57: Ember Moon
To fill out this roster, I intend to mix seasoned veterans, newbies and what I call “50/50’s”. These are younger athletes who are young enough to still be seen as rookies, but their ring awareness and athleticism says otherwise. Ember Moon needs a booker who believes in her and will use her in a way complementary to her strengths. In SWS, her star power will be put to use!

Jack Goodwillie
World Series of Wrestling
Draft Pick #58: Dolph Ziggler
I like taking guys I think are value picks, but I’m getting Dolph for probably what he’s worth in this kind of draft because…well, there are a few reasons. First of all, he’s got visibility far beyond what WWE sees for him and what a lot of wrestling fans see for him. Dolph is very popular with casuals for his appearances in Cricket Wireless commercials and for his appearances at the Comedy Store here in LA and on Comedy Central’s roast battle. Las Vegas is also an ideal place for Dolph to pursue his standup career on the side, so he’s a total fit for a West Coast promotion/territory.

However, despite conventional wisdom, I do NOT plan on having Dolph team with Drew McIntyre. That they’re both on my roster is a coincidence, as I have big plans, albeit different plans for both. Dolph is 38, but has avoided major injury and wear and tear throughout his career, and if his drive is on, he’d also be an ideal locker room leader. Like Kevin Owens, Ziggler may not be involved in the main angle of what I’ve got planned, but he has already been penciled into another big storyline.

Team LeftJab
Gotham Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #59: Joey Ryan
Good wrestler, tons of personality and a gimmick that’s not for everyone, but will fit right in with the renegade atmosphere of GCW.

Chad Gelfand
Professional Wrestling Association (PWA)
Draft Pick #60: Bianca Belair
I already picked up Sasha Banks to be one of my cornerstones of the women’s division because of what she’s already accomplished. I’m picking up Bianca Belair right here because of the enormous potential that she has shown in the early stages of her career. The “EST of NXT” has shown charisma, mic skills and in-ring ability to go along with her insane athleticism.

Neal Wagner
Anarchy Wrestling
Draft Pick #61: “The Villian” Marty Scurll
When someone sparks anarchy in professional wrestling, it’s usually caused by someone who is devious, evil and villainous! Marty Scurll can finally be a world champion in my company.

Steven Jackson
International Association Wrestling
Draft Pick #62: “The Gatekeeper” Kelly Klein
One of the best technical wrestlers on the planet (as well as one of the most intimidating), Kelly Klein has a style perfect for IAW. Kelly already has an impressive resume and she has got a very successful career ahead of her, which I would capitalize on greatly in IAW.

Sam Gladen
Deep South Wrestling
Draft Pick #63: Keith Lee
The man is a monster receiving a hell of a push at the moment in NXT and would be a massive draw to any crowd let alone a hometown in Deep South Wrestling.

Juan Bautista
Global Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #64: CCK (Chris Brookes, Kid Lykos & Travis Banks)
One of the best tag teams in the world right now. They are great for any division and the “Free Bird Rule” is useful.

Calvin Gibbon
Champagne Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #65: Asuka
This one is a shocker. I can’t believe that this woman is still available. She is the most legit female fighter in all of wrestling. As a striker, she’s unparalleled. Her fury in the ring is a sight to behold. As part of Champagne Wrestling, she is likely to start another epic undefeated streak!

Anthony Mahalis
World Wrestling Syndicate
Draft Pick #66: The Undisputed Era
Let’s get my tag team division started with a bang. The system will be shocked.

The seventh round begins Monday.
