The Wrestling Estate Fantasy Draft: Round 8

Tag teams are all the rage.

What if all the top wrestling companies in the world got together and said, “let’s blow the whole thing up and start from scratch?”

Eleven companies will then rise from the ashes, having a draft to determine how the best talent in the world will be divided up for the foreseeable future.

The draft will be conducted through email – 12 rounds. As far as the talent pool goes, all active wrestlers are available. Part-timers are usable, semi-retired wrestlers are not. (So Brock Lesnar and John Cena are fair game, Triple H, Undertaker and HBK are not.) For the purposes of this simulation, we will assume Roman Reigns does NOT have leukemia and Joey Janela’s leg is NOT broken. Some wrestlers can be taken as tag teams, but the caveat is that you have to use them in the same match.

At the end of the draft, we will also have a bonus 13th “legends” round, where you can draft one legend to appear on your show in any way you see fit. The only rule here is that the legend has to be in their present-day form, so you can’t get, for instance, Shawn Michaels from 1997. You won’t be able to draft Chris Jericho, though, as he will be able to appear on any of your shows without having to use a draft pick on him, kind of like as he does in real life, almost like a free space in bingo.

At the end of the draft, you will then submit a “2-3 hour” pay-per-view card to show how your talent would work together in your fictional wrestling company. We’ll run Twitter polls to let readers vote on who has the best roster and who created the most entertaining PPV.

John Corrigan
SHOOT
Draft Pick #78: Chad Gable
The most underutilized man in all of WWE. Chad Gable has unlimited potential and a credible background, having competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics. His amateur wrestling proficiency will be on full display in SHOOT.

Jenna Leigh
Sparkle Female Superstars
Draft Pick #79: Mercedes Martinez
A long-time fave of mine, a woman I’ve screamed, ranted and begged WWE to sign. She’s a 16-year veteran of the industry, chalking up wins all over North America, the UK and Japan. She is currently the Shimmer Women’s Champion, with her reign very recently passing the 300-day mark. One of the meanest heels, coupled with one of the sharpest tongues, Mercedes Martinez has the technical acumen to mat wrestle and the complete lack of fear that allows her to work a “hardcore” style. Her knowledge and experience will be an incredible asset in our dressing room. Basically, she’s repped “Shimmer” long enough. It’s time for her to SPARKLE like the diamond she is!

Jack Goodwillie
World Series of Wrestling
Draft Pick #80: Braun Strowman
Very, VERY tough call for me here and I actually changed this pick two or three times, but at the end of the day, you just cannot deny Braun Strowman’s presence. Given some of the boxes he checks off, it’s a huge surprise to me that he was not chosen first because there is no better monster in wrestling right now. You want a guy to steamroll the competition because he’s bigger, stronger and more menacing than anyone else? Braun is the guy to do it. Plus, book him in the right match and you can actually get a good match out of him. The Nicholas stuff at WrestleMania was egregious and stupid, but I’m willing to throw that out to give Braun a chance to be a special Las Vegas attraction where freakishly talented, or in Braun’s case, freakishly strong people are looked at as gods among men, let alone monsters among men. I know it looks kind of weird that I have Braun, McIntyre and Ziggler all on the same show (as it brings up painful memories of 2018 Raw), but I think my plans for all three will do wonders for each of them individually.

Team LeftJab
Gotham Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #81: Kongo Kong
A monster to tear things up and always be a threat to every wrestler in the promotion. Kongo Kong is a beast who is agile and will be a world title contender.

Chad Gelfand
Professional Wrestling Association (PWA)
Draft Pick #82: The Usos
The Usos are everything you want in a tag team. They’ve always had the in-ring prowess, but now over the past couple of years, they have stepped up their game on the mic and as characters. The Usos will be locking teams down in the PWA for now on.

Neal Wagner
Anarchy Wrestling
Draft Pick #83: SoCal Uncensored
Just like New Day this trio is nonstop action. They cut great promos with some comedy mixed in, but when the bell rings, it’s time to fight! The Ring General, The Rebel and The Violent Delight come to Anarchy and I already have ideas lined up for them!

Steven Jackson
International Association Wrestling
Draft Pick #84: Bea Priestley
My vision for IAW is to present, as much as possible, the most cosmopolitan pro wrestling roster in the world today. Bea Priestley is one of the shining female stars in Australia and comes to IAW with a strong wrestling background, as well as awesome charisma. Young and highly talented, Bea Priestley will be able to lock horns with some of the world’s finest in IAW.

Sam Gladen
Deep South Wrestling
Draft Pick #85: Mike Parrow
The beast of MLW, an absolute behemoth of a man, Mike Parrow is one scary SOB.

Juan Bautista
Global Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #86: Kay Lee Ray
One of the best wrestlers in the world. The Queen of Insanity is the best part of any wrestling show.

Calvin Gibbon
Champagne Championship Wrestling
Draft Pick #87: Tyler Bate
One of the best of the UK indie scene, and a tremendous choice for any brand around the world. Tyler Bate took to wrestling like a fish to water. Still a young man compared to his peers, the former NXT UK and Progress Tag Team Champion can lead as a young babyface for years. I feel like Tyler Bate is the future. Champagne believes in Tyler Bate.

Anthony Mahalis
World Wrestling Syndicate
Draft Pick #88: The Revival
Another case of horrific booking by WWE…shocking. The Revival have lost all of their luster from their NXT days. Well, they will regain it and then some. The Top Guys will find glory again.

The ninth round begins Friday.
