LEGOS, Barbed Wire & Booty Shaking

Synergy went hardcore for its one-year anniversary.

It was a hardcore birthday for Synergy Pro Wrestling on Saturday.

Instead of cake and candles, there was barbed wire and broken glass as the inmates ran the asylum. After all, it was to be expected as Synergy Champion Matt Tremont hosted “Year One” at the H20 Wrestling Center in Williamstown, New Jersey – home of his Hardcore Hustle Organization. Having home field advantage paid off for the Bulldzoer in his grueling battle with Frightmare, who jumped the champion from behind to start their No Disqualification match. They brawled around the building, feeding off the adrenaline of screaming children and worried parents, shuffling out of their seats in trepidation.

Back inside the ring, Tremont set up two chairs for a good ol’ fashioned bar fight. Frightmare obliged, but quickly dropkicked the champion and pounced on his leg. For the next several minutes, the bloodthirsty luchador stomped and yanked on Tremont’s bad wheel, hoping for a submission that would never come. Tremont fought back, hitting a gigantic Samoan drop and nearly knocking Frightmare’s mask off with a mighty lariat. Ultimately, it was a powerbomb onto a barbed wire board sprinkled with thumbtacks that finally put Frightmare away.

In an effort to provide family-friendly entertainment while playing under H20 rules, Synergy allowed the fans in attendance to decide the stipulation for Jeff Cannonball vs. Logan Black. Barefoot LEGOS won in a landslide as both combatants carried those colorful blocks to the ring. Special guest referee “Lowlife” Louie Ramos, a local deathmatch veteran, refused to simply watch the chaos unfold – he entered himself into the action. It was hardcore wrestling rated P.G., but by God, it was one of the most painful matches you’ll ever see.

Logan Black was the first to wince in agony, as Cannonball and Ramos lifted him up for a double atomic drop, but made sure he landed feet first onto the LEGOS. Black would get revenge, trying to force feed Cannonball with the toys before jacking his jaw with a haymaker. He sought revenge on Ramos as well, trying to bodyslam him on the concrete floor.

Unfortunately, Ramos was too heavy and turned the tide, slamming Black in front of the front row. As each man took turns crashing into the LEGOS, yelping in excruciating pain, “This Is Awesome” chants echoed throughout the H20 Wrestling Center. Finally, Cannonball hit Ramos with a Bubba Bomb into the blocks, rolling him over for the pin.

In a break from the carnage, “Retrosexual” Anthony Greene took on Matt Striker in a match well worth the price of admission. The hijinks included thumb wrestling, musical chairs and a lap dance, capped off by a series of familiar moves like the Superman Punch, Five Knucke Shuffle and Tombstone Piledriver. Greene’s Platinum Hunnies got involved for the finish, as all three delivered a powerbomb ala The Shield, sending Striker home with a loss. The Lucha Underground and MLW commentator thanked the crowd afterward, commending Synergy for making it a full year in this traditionally turbulent business.

The fun and games were over as Brandon Kirk reappeared after walking out of the opening contest. He smashed a plate over Louie Ramos Jr., choking the 13-year-old boy with a steel chair. As referees and staff pleaded with Kirk to release the boy, Synergy creative director Colin West emerged from backstage, finally talking some sense into the psychopath. West announced that Kirk would be taking on Jimmy Lloyd in a chairs match at Synergy’s next event – Black Saturday on November 24 in Manville, New Jersey.

In addition, as a result of winning the opening fatal four way, Drake Chambers has called his shot: he will face Frightmare in a ladder match at Black Saturday. Also on the card, Synergy Champion Matt Tremont will defend against the undefeated Anthony Greene.

And, living up this word that the co-main event of Black Saturday would be the biggest match in Synergy history, West announced that KTB will face the newest member of the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame…
