Matt Tremont Wins Synergy Championship

The Bulldozer made history at Synergy Wrestling’s “Gold Standard.”

Matt Tremont bulldozed his way through Kyle the Beast to become the first Synergy Champion last Saturday at “Gold Standard.”

It looked like the tournament final was going to end without a winner, as both warriors were initially counted out while brawling throughout the fabled Manville VFW. The match was then restarted under no disqualification, no countout rules – tipping the scales in the deathmatch veteran’s favor – as both competitors brought chairs in the ring for an old fashioned duel. The slugfest quickly escalated and it seemed as though KTB was on the verge of victory; however, Tremont sidestepped and KTB’s head went through a steel chair, only for him to turn around and be nearly decapitated by a lariat.

And with that, the H20 Wrestling owner added yet another title to his resume.

His first challenger was decided earlier in the evening as Chris Dickinson battled Brandon Kirk in a number-one contender’s match. Before the bell rang, Kirk jumped Dickinson from behind, pummeling the veteran to the outside. Dickinson reversed the momentum, throwing Kirk into the steel guardrail and almost wiping out the production equipment. The action continued back in the ring where Dickinson was preparing for a superkick, but Kirk’s fiancé Kasey Catal ran out from the crowd and held his leg. Catal then tossed a bag of powder to her man while distracting the referee. Unfortunately, the powder went into the ref’s eyes, temporarily blinding the official and allowing Catal to enter the ring. A miscue led to Kirk crashing into the turnbuckle, giving the “Dirty Daddy” a chance to piledriver the future Mrs. Kirk.

Once the ref regained his vision, it was a three count for Dickinson to earn a shot at Tremont.

It was a night of firsts as Terra Calaway and Willow Nightingale became the first women to compete at Synergy, teaming with their respective significant others (Calaway and Jeff Cannonball, Nightingale and Rex Lawless) in mixed tag team action. Calway and Cannonball didn’t come alone, though, as a massive, inflatable dinosaur emerged from behind the curtain, greeting bewildered fans and shimmying outside the ring. An epic dance party broke out amongst the combatants (as well as the referee) until buzzkill Lawless stomped Cannonball. It seemed as though anything the men could do, the ladies could do better as Calaway successfully shoulder tackled Lawless and Nightingale slammed the mammoth Cannonball. In the end, the dinosaur entered the fray, slapping Lawless before Calaway hit a Full Nelson Slam for the victory.

Afterward, Logan Black attacked Cannonball from behind, challenging him to a match at Synergy’s next event in September.

Also in September, Matt Striker is slated to make up his missed appearance at “Gold Standard.” His scheduled opponent Stevie Shields supposedly called the airport and had Striker’s plane reservation cancelled. Shane Douglas was going to replace Striker, but a scheduling issue prevented “The Franchise” from making the show. With only 25 minutes until match time, Headshrinker Samu, who participated in the free meet-and-greet before the show, agreed to fill in and face his former student. Fans gave a standing ovation afterward, reliving their youth as the Samoan delivered a spinning donkey kick straight out of 1993 to knockout Shields for the win.

In another change of the card, Jersey All Pro Wrestling Light Heavyweight Champion Archadia was unable to compete as Synergy creative director Colin West previously announced in an interview with The Wrestling Estate. So his scheduled challenger Mike Del fought for another belt – the International Fanny Pack Championship, held by “Retrosexual” Anthony Greene.

If you’ve never seen Greene compete, you’re missing out. The Uncle Jesse of Pro Wrestling has a fun repertoire which Manville fans got only a taste of, from his “Hey! Ho! Hey! Ho!” full nelson to his “Who ya gonna call? Facebuster!” Del grew sick of the shenanigans and targeted Greene’s arm, even hitting a sliding German suplex while the champion was hung up in the ropes.

Outside the ring, Del went to retrieve the title, shoving down “Platinum Hunnie” Ava Everett in the process. As he entered the ring, The Delster walked into a superkick, followed by a springboard stunner to end the match and send Greene home happy with his girl.
