Fantasy PPV: Gotham Championship Wrestling

Nick Gage battles Kongo Kong in the main event.

What if all the top wrestling companies in the world got together and said, “let’s blow the whole thing up and start from scratch?”

Eleven companies will then rise from the ashes, having a draft to determine how the best talent in the world will be divided up for the foreseeable future.

The draft will be conducted through email – 12 rounds. As far as the talent pool goes, all active wrestlers are available. Part-timers are usable, semi-retired wrestlers are not. (So Brock Lesnar and John Cena are fair game, Triple H, Undertaker and HBK are not.) Some wrestlers can be taken as tag teams, but the caveat is that you have to use them in the same match.

At the end of the draft, we will also have a bonus 13th “legends” round, where you can draft one legend to appear on your show in any way you see fit. The only rule here is that the legend has to be in their present-day form, so you can’t get, for instance, Shawn Michaels from 1997. You won’t be able to draft Chris Jericho, though, as he will be able to appear on any of your shows without having to use a draft pick on him, kind of like as he does in real life, almost like a free space in bingo.

At the end of the draft, you will then submit a “2-3 hour” pay-per-view card to show how your talent would work together in your fictional wrestling company. We’ll run Twitter polls to let readers vote on who has the best roster and who created the most entertaining PPV.

Gotham Championship Wrestling presents wrestling the way it should be! No count outs, No DQs and every match has a decisive winner. Fewer storylines with more great matchups and a vest for the unexpected. Most importantly, this New York-based promotion will be less for the G-rated crowd and more for the adult audience.

Paul Heyman and Vince Russo are on commentary.

GCW Heavyweight Title Match
Joey Janela vs. Randy Orton

Janela comes back from injury and picks up right where he left off ,being put in the first ever GCW Championship match. Randy Orton, with his strong WWE roots and popularity, gets the nod to be in this match opposite Janela. They go back and forth with Orton having the edge in the final moments until out of nowhere, Penelope Ford comes from under the ring and clocks Orton with one of her boots. Orton is out cold and Janela climbs to the top rope and delivers a leg drop to get the win, becoming the first GCW Champ and proving his knee is fully recovered.

Gotham Title
Sami Callihan vs. Hangman Page

Two of the toughest and best in the business square off for the GCW Gotham title with the winner getting an immediate shot at Janela for the GCW Heavyweight Title. This is an absolute slugfest with no one getting the upper hand until Callihan brings in a chair and Page dropkicks it into his face, giving Page the win and the Gotham title.

MJF vs. Abyss

Brains and skill vs. power and brawn. Abyss totally dominates the match until MJF clips Abyss’ knee, taking him off his feet. MJF goes on to systematically attack the knee like Ric Flair would back in the day, leading to a surprise Scorpion Deathlock which makes the monster tap out.

Lio Rush vs. Sammy Guevara

A high-flying matchup of two of the fastest and skilled wrestlers in the world today, reminding fans of the classic Psychosis-Rey Mysterio battles. Both land high risk moves in and out of the ring with Rush being just a step ahead of Guevara. The match ends when Rush misses a frog splash and Guevera climbs to the top and lands a shooting star press for the win.

Joey Ryan vs. Hulk Hogan

Joey Ryan is the ultimate ladies’ man, but he never expected to see Hulk Hogan walk out like this. Not to the NWO or Real American theme, but as the character he played in Rocky 3…Thunderlips! Thunderlips was the “ultimate male” and ladies’ man, coming out with the same cape and top hat as in the movie. Surrounded by women, Hogan obviously tries to psych Ryan out. The match goes back and forth until Ryan gets the upper hand and gets Hogan to do his dick spot, which compels Hogan to go back to his Hulkamania days, hulking up and powering away from Ryan’s famous move. Hogan starts well, but it’s clear his best days are behind him as Ryan outwrestles him and ends the match with a clean 1-2-3 after a double leg backbreaker on Hulk. After the match, Ryan gets on the mic and calls out Jim Cornette to stop talking tough on social media, challenging the legendary manager to meet him in the ring at GCW and for him to bring as many “80’s tough guys” as he wants.

Kongo Kong vs. Nick Gage

A strange match pitting one of the most violent brawlers in Nick Gage and a beast in Kongo Kong. Definitely not a pretty match that sees Kong tossing Gage until Gage brings a few weapons in to neutralize Kong. Gage uses everything from chairs to barbed wire bats, bloodying the beast. However, it’s four chairshots from Kong followed by a splash off the top that finally puts Gage away.
