MLW Debuts In Miami With Doubleheader

Back to back nights of great action, including Konnan challenging Low Ki.

Whether you’re an independent in the Northeast or broadcast on beIN Sports, no promotion is exempt from the ultimate rule in pro wrestling:

Card subject to change.

Due to a variety of injuries and politics, MLW has been forced to shake up its doubleheader debut in Miami this week. On Thursday, MLW presents “Never Say Never” from the Miami Scottish Rite Temple, an MLW Fusion taping. On Friday, the promotion goes live for the first time on beIN Sports, presenting “Zero Hour” from the same venue.

“Miami is the perfect location with South Florida being one of our hottest markets as well as for the snowbirds looking to get away for a long weekend in the sun,” MLW CEO Court Bauer said in a press release. “We wanted to come back and bring something big so we’re serving up a double shot of MLW this December.”

Originally scheduled for a Tag Team Championship match this Thursday, titleholder Fenix has suffered an injury that will keep him out of action until January. In his place, fellow champion Pentagon Jr. will go one on one with the captain of the Hart Foundation, Teddy Hart.

Another change has come after PCO recently signed a contract with Ring of Honor, barring him from competing for any other organization. As a result, Sami Callihan will be taking the French-Canadian Frankenstein’s place in a falls count anywhere match with LA Park. It’s an interesting development as Callihan had been working for Salina de la Renta – Park’s manager – as a hired mercenary. Apparently, there is bad blood between the two after Callihan failed to destroy Tom Lawlor last month in Chicago.

Speaking of Lawlor, the number-one contender to the MLW World Heavyweight Championship faces his former friend and teammate Simon Gotch in the first no ropes, no gloves, no-holds-barred fight. Team Filthy split in epic fashion as Gotch led Lawlor to the boiler room, where Promociones Dorado ambushed the UFC specialist as Gotch locked the door, grinning from ear to ear. Lawlor comes for revenge this Thursday.

MLW’s latest acquisition, the notorious luchador RUSH, will have his work cut out for him in back-to-back nights. The leader of Los Ingobernables meets former world champion Shane “Swerve” Strickland on Thursday and then Rich Swann on Friday.

Also on Thursday, there will be three former and current Impact Wrestling stars making their MLW debut: high-flying sensation DJZ goes up against Hijo de LA Park (presented by da la Renta) while Dezmond Xavier clashes with Andrew Everett.

One night later, Konnan comes out of retirement once again to challenge MLW World Heavyweight Champion Low Ki. The Mexican legend was goaded into stepping back into the ring by Ki and de la Renta after the champion turned back the challenges of Daga and Fenix. Of course, the power couple went out of their way to humiliate and severely harm both luchadores, ripping off Fenix’ mask and Daga’s ear!

“Low Ki you’re younger than me, quicker than me, stronger than me…at this point,” Konnan said in a press release. “But what’s gonna happen when the underdog – and I need to be the underdog and I don’t need anyone telling me I should win because I shouldn’t win but what’s going to happen when I go to my hometown and beat you? What are you going to say then? Because that’s exactly what’s gonna happen.”

In other championship action, the MLW Middleweight Title will be held high above the fans in a four-way ladder match. Reigning champion MJF recently fractured his elbow, forcing MLW officials to vacate the title and put it up for grabs between these four men: Kotto Brazil, Jason Cade, Andrew Everett and Dezmond Xavier.

“The fans are paying for a title match and the league will deliver on the promise of one next Friday,” Bauer said. “When MJF is medically cleared by his doctor and league physicians, he will have an opportunity to reclaim the title.”

Anticipation is high for Brian Pillman Jr. to receive his comeuppance from Tommy Dreamer. The Innovator of Violence vowed to teach the cocky, second-generation standout some respect after the Hart Foundation pummeled the legendary Kevin Sullivan during the summer. Pillman dished out equal punishment to Dreamer last month in Chicago, battering the House of Hardcore owner with a Singapore cane. Well, Dreamer will brandish that same weapon he made famous a quarter century ago this Friday night.

Also on Friday, expect an earthquake when Ace Romero battles Barrington Hughes for the first time. Undefeated since his October 2017 debut, Hughes may finally meet his match against the viral sensation. “Wrestling has forgotten about the spectacular super heavyweights, but Acey and Barrington are going to awaken the sport when they send shock waves Friday in Miami,” Bauer said.
