Ty Awesome Wins ECWA Heavyweight Title

ECWA Toys For Tots finished off 2018 in epic fashion.

Christmas came early for ECWA fans as beloved underdog Ty Awesome defeated “Colossal” Mike Law to become ECWA Heavyweight Champion on Saturday.

Despite multiple injuries due to an attack earlier in the week, Awesome protested management’s plea to postpone the match and vowed to compete at ECWA Toys For Tots. The gutsy high-flyer absorbed ungodly punishment from Law, who repeatedly targeted the wounded area, even ripping the medical tape off Awesome’s ribs. A springboard diamond cutter, superkick and TKO couldn’t keep the resilient challenger down, as “Let’s Go Ty” chants echoed throughout the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, Delaware.

With frustration mounting, AJ Pan brought a chair into the ring, which Awesome superkicked into his face. Law took control again, retrieving a second chair and setting them next to each other, attempting to superplex Awesome and potentially end his young career. The “Maryland Miracle” fought out of the dire situation, rocking the champion with a series of high kicks before sending him crashing through the chairs with a Frankensteiner. Awesome followed up with his signature 450 splash to dethrone Law and win the gold.

As the crowd sprang to their feet, rejoicing over their hero’s triumph, several members of the ECWA roster entered the ring to hoist the new champion on their shoulders in celebration.

Awesome and Law headlined an excellent night of action, featuring three arguable showstealers which included fellow PCA members Azrieal and ECWA Mid-Atlantic Champion Joey Ace. Looking to snap his losing streak, Azrieal jumped Kekoa before the bell rang, kickstarting their fast-paced, action-packed matchup. The “Flyin Hawaiian” lived up to his nickname, swinging off the steel post for a 619, followed by a dropkick through the turnbuckle and a spiraling plancha to the floor. Azrieal tried to slow Kekoa’s momentum, grounding the Triple Crown champion with various submissions, including an octopus stretch.

Refusing to submit, Kekoa battled back, blocking a third suplex and popping Azrieal with a spear. That wasn’t enough to keep the former champion down, as Azrieal rebounded with a Frankensteiner followed by a frog splash. Somehow, Kekoa kicked out of the surefire pin, prompting Azrieal to hit him with a diamond cutter. As Kekoa made it back to his feet, both men hit simultaneous superkicks, and Kekoa fell on top of Azrieal for the three count. Afterward, Azrieal embraced his opponent in a sign of respect for a thrilling bout.

It wasn’t all gloom and doom for PCA, though. Originally scheduled to defend the Mid-Atlantic Championship in a handicap match against Joe Gacy, AJ Pan and Joey Ace got lucky that their opponent was in Florida competing for American Combat Wrestling. As a result, Ace offered a title shot to Adam Chandler the Great, who apparently rejected an offer to join PCA after The #Draw disbanded last month.

With the fans now firmly in his corner, Chandler overpowered Ace in the beginning of their match, shaking off the champion’s offense. Sensing a short reign for his client, Pan hopped on the apron to distract Chandler, allowing Ace to knock him to the outside. Pan’s interference became the theme of the bout, interjecting only when the referee wasn’t looking. Eventually, Chandler summoned the strength to mount a comeback, turning the tide with a flurry of power moves. He propped Ace up on the turnbuckle, trying to finish him off with a high impact maneuver, but once again, Pan seized the ref’s attention, allowing Ace to low blow Chandler and follow up with a flying elbow drop for the victory.

In the scariest scene of the night, Chris Wylde knocked Ricky Martinez off the turnbuckle, and the crowd gasped as he tumbled onto the table at ringside. Officials gathered around Martinez’ body as he cried out in agony. It seemed as if the match was going to be called off until Wylde ruthlessly attacked Martinez, tearing at his flesh and pounding him in the face. Martinez would eventually fight back, delivering a Samoan Drop off the top rope for the unlikely win. Several fans gave a standing ovation after the bout as the warriors hugged each other in a sign of mutual respect for such a hard-fought battle.
