Double Or Nothing Preview

What can we expect at AEW’s inaugural event?

The war is officially upon us. WWE fired its first shot last Sunday at Beast in the Bank. That’s right, WWE’s answer to its new competition is to maintain the status quo. Thankfully for wrestling fans, All Elite Wrestling will return fire in Las Vegas with Double or Nothing. All we can really go on is the success from “All In” to predict what will happen this Saturday.

Casino Battle Royal

When most people think of battle royals, they don’t normally scream excitement, but the Over the Budget Battle Royal was fun and unique. I expect more of the same from the Casino Battle Royal. The match has been modified a bit as five wrestlers will start the match off, followed by five more wrestlers joining the fray in three-minute intervals. The 21st entry will be the last wrestler in the battle royal and hold the title of “Lucky 21.” While we may not know much about the first AEW World Champion, the winner of this match will get a guaranteed title shot in the future. So far, those bidding to claim that spot include Joey Janela, MJF, Sonny Kiss, Glacier, Brian Pillman Jr., Dustin Thomas and Jungle Boy.

Sammy Guevara vs. Kip Sabian

Sammy Guevara is going to help draw more PPV buys when he clashes against Sabian. The high flying action is going to get the crowd hot right before the official show kicks off. Cody has said before that AEW is for new faces, not to repackage WWE guys. This match is going to do just that and expose both wrestlers to a much bigger audience.

Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki & Emi Sakura vs. Hikaru Shida, Riho & Ryo

The men aren’t the only ones getting a new platform to showcase their talents. Brandi and the rest of the AEW staff have worked hard to bring in a set of new faces for the women’s division. We will get a firsthand look at what the women of AEW have to offer.

Best Friends vs. Angelico & Jack Evans

My pick to win the Casino Battle Royal is none other than Chuckie T!….wait he’s not doing that? On Being The Elite, the Best Friends made it very clear they were not interested in doing the battle royal, so what will they do? Here’s our answer: Angelico and Jack Evans. This is the focus of tag wrestling we were promised by the Young Bucks. This is another match that is going to be full of high spots, showcasing just how talented all four men truly are. We are still in the dark about a lot of the titles that will be on AEW, but it’s a safe bet that the winner of this match will put themselves in the front of the line for a future tag title shot.

Dr. Britt Baker vs. Kylie Rae vs. Nyla Rose

The first female signees will square off in a triple threat match, which for all purposes is the women’s main event match. Fans who have never seen these athletes are in for a treat. The focus on women’s wrestling is going to give the fans a chance to actually choose who they think is the best. There are no royal families here, just three women who want to set the world on fire.

SCU vs. CIMA, T-Hawk, & El Lindaman

AAA won’t be the only company helping out AEW as we learned that Oriental Wrestling of China has agreed to some deals with the company. One of those deals is that CIMA will be heading to Double Or Nothing. Once the news of this broke, fan favorites SoCal Uncensored stepped up and challenged him and two partners of his choosing. This should be one of the most entertaining matches of the night, and oh yeah, let’s not forget about the after party!

Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho

Cody can say they are not trying to compete with WWE, but Jericho has other plans. Like he often does, Jericho has remade himself, but this time he is playing the card of “WWE sees me as midcard.” He has voiced his displeasure on Vince McMahon’s lack of faith in him. Omega vs. Jericho Part Two is going to show the world why he is still one of the best wrestlers on the planet. The biggest problem with this is the guy he is facing also thinks he is the best. Omega hands down is the “Best Bout Machine” and with a motivated Y2J, this match could top their Wrestle Kingdom showdown. Hell, it could possibly be the match of the year.

Cody Rhodes vs. Dustin Rhodes

This has long been a dream match – not the watered down feud of Stardust vs. Goldust that was given ten minutes. This will showcase The American Dream’s sons finally having a wrestling match with no silly gimmicks. We are going to get to see a technical masterpiece. Add in the brother storyline and it just makes this feel a lot more special. We all rejoiced when Cody won his father’s title at “All In,” now we will get to watch these two tear the house down as The Dream watches down with a smile.

The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros. (AAA Tag Team Title Match)

The Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros. is going to be a rematch for the AAA Tag Team Titles. Matt and Nick showed up in Mexico to take down the Lucha Bros. and now they’ll be strutting into Vegas with some shiny new titles. This feud has been fun from the very beginning and with tag team wrestling to be pushed to the moon, this should close out Double or Nothing. Of course, Pentagon and Fenix will be looking to spoil The Bucks’ party, taking their titles on foreign soil just as The Bucks did to them earlier this year.

Hangman Page

With PAC pulling out of the event, this leaves Page without a match. Hangman has worked hard all year for this big pay off and we still have a chance of getting it. My two choices would be either former dead friend Marty Scurll crashing the party (more of a long shot with Marty still being with New Japan and ROH) or Jon Moxley entering the fold. After all, he lives in Vegas! Page vs. Mox would be a hard hitting brawl that would make Page look like the future star he is.
