A Positive Story About Control Your Narrative

ECIII, Adam Scherr and RYZIN gave one fan the best WrestleMania weekend ever.

Since its inception, Control Your Narrative has been bombarded with criticism.

Fans have littered social media with unfounded claims about the upstart pro wrestling company’s unconventional anti-establishment rules, such as no “superkicks” or no “Canadian Destroyers,” which have left fans bewildered, and in some cases, outright furious. With such a large portion of the audience wanting a different take on wrestling, it’s interesting that many fans are purposely causing an emotionally negative reaction to this company that is only trying to bring a different approach to the genre.

My recent encounter with the company proved that not only is Control Your Narrative a great, young promotion with tremendous talent, but it’s also humble, caring and empathetic when it comes to its fans.

A few months back, one of the members of the roster, RYZIN, (whose character portrays an evil priest) was performing for Colorado Springs Wrestling. While there, he met a gentleman named Fabian Lobato, a wrestling diehard. He and his wife Sarah have been college sweethearts since 2007 and married in 2012. Their son Sean has recombinant 8 syndrome, a condition that involves heart and urinary tract abnormalities, moderate to severe intellectual disability, and a distinctive facial appearance. Many children with recombinant 8 syndrome don’t survive past early childhood, usually due to complications related to their heart abnormalities.

Sean is a massive wrestling fan and his parents receive such joy when he’s able to escape through the world of suplexes and chairshots. Ryzin gravitated to them and was very attentive to young Sean. Despite the character he plays, Ryzin has a reputation of being a very sweet and kindhearted human outside of wrestling.

Fast forward to the second Control Your Narrative event, which was taking place in Dallas. Make-A-Wish was granting young Sean and his family the chance of a lifetime to attend all WWE-related WrestleMania events that same week. They arrived Thursday but had nothing planned after touch down. Ryzin reached out and asked if they would like to be his guests at Control Your Narrative. Co-owners and cocreators ECIII and Adam Scherr were consulted and were said to be ALL IN!

“We were honored to be at Control Your Narrative with our special needs son, Sean,” Fabian says. “When we heard that ECIII and Adam Scherr were the creative geniuses behind the organization, we were excited. Before the show, we were able to meet both. Adam and EC3 are some of the nicest guys you will ever meet. They treated Sean like he owned the place.”

Scherr (formerly known as Braun Strowman) has a history of going out of his way to meet and greet with kids, raising money for charity and discussing the importance of mental health and happiness. His destructive demeanor in the ring is no match for his teddy bear-like personality outside of it.

ECIII, who has been credited as the brainchild of Control Your Narrative after it spawned from his “Free The Narrative” iPPVs, has been building the company while trying to provide transparency with his mission. Openly battling cancel culture and the toxicity of social media, even taking part in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit where he tried to clear the air with the misconceptions of the brand, ECIII has been very active in helping those around him be better versions of themselves.

“When we first met Ryzin, he immediately made us feel like family,” Sarah says. “We felt so honored to be his guest and it was one of the best surprises to start the WrestleMania trip. We are honored to have him as a friend so he can see Sean’s journey and his growth.”

According to the Lobatos, Control Your Narrative was a great experience for the whole family. Sean loved every minute of it. It’s a beautiful story worth sharing, and perhaps a little more perspective of what this new promotion is really about.
