The Awesome Era Begins In ECWA

Mike Law receives his contractually-obligated rematch against ECWA Heavyweight Champion Ty Awesome.

“Colossal” Mike Law has quickly gone to work on achieving his New Year’s resolution, optioning for his contractually obligated rematch against Ty Awesome for the ECWA Heavyweight Championship. The top two wrestlers in the longest-running independent promotion in the United States will meet again on January 19, in New Castle, Delaware.

They last met at ECWA Toys For Tots in December, when Awesome refused doctor’s orders and competed with taped ribs. A springboard diamond cutter, superkick and TKO couldn’t keep the “Maryland Miracle” down, as “Let’s Go Ty” chants echoed throughout the Asbury United Methodist Church.

With frustration mounting, Law’s manager AJ Pan brought a chair into the ring, which Awesome superkicked into his face. Law took control again, retrieving a second chair and setting them next to each other, attempting to superplex Awesome and potentially end his young career. Awesome fought out of the dire situation, rocking the champion with a series of high kicks before sending him crashing through the chairs with a Frankensteiner. Awesome followed up with his signature 450 splash to dethrone Law and win the gold.

As the crowd sprang to their feet, rejoicing over their hero’s triumph, several members of the ECWA roster entered the ring to hoist the new champion on their shoulders.

“I’m typically a very nice guy, but when you fight for so long, and you have so many critics and doubters to prove wrong, something comes over you,” Awesome told The Wrestling Estate. “I still have a lot to prove. It’s time to show why I am the champion.”

Awesome will have to prove himself all over again when he faces Law next Saturday at ECWA New Year’s Resolution, this time, in a two-out-of-three falls match.

In preparation for the test of endurance, Awesome has been monitoring his diet, hitting the gym two-to-three times a week and training with the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions, The Briscoes, who showed him the ropes when he was just a teenager. “I’m going to fight my hardest to keep this championship,” Awesome says. “I would never guess at the tender age of 23 that a kid from Salisbury, Maryland, would win the heavyweight championship in a company that has the legacy of ECWA. I’m going to pin Mike Law twice just like I pinned him in December.”

You better believe that Pan has been developing a strategy for his client to regain the title. After all, Awesome has broken the PCA’s stranglehold on the Heavyweight Championship. Now the most powerful organization in ECWA has one title left in its grasp – the ECWA Mid-Atlantic Championship held by relative newcomer to the treacherous group, Joey Ace. Last month at ECWA Toys For Tots, Ace was scheduled to defend the title in a handicap match, partnering with Pan against former champion Joe Gacy.

However, Gacy was in Florida competing for American Combat Wrestling, allowing Adam Chandler the Great to fill in and challenge for the gold, albeit unsuccessfully. Now Ace will defend against another ECWA newcomer – BLK JEEZ – next Saturday in Delaware. How fitting that the 5-Starr Studd, who received a title shot in his debut, will be granting the same honor to another fresh face?

Speaking of Adam Chandler, he has seemingly found new partners after #TheDraw disbanded. He’ll be teaming with ECWA Tag Team Champions Marcus Waters and Funky White Boy as they take on new trio Primal Fear. Last month the teams battled to a double disqualification – this month the titles will be on the line in 6-man tag team action, a unique opportunity for the challengers.

Another PCA member looking to achieve his resolution is Azrieal. The former champion has been on a losing streak for several months after thrilling matches with Awesome and Kekoa. Now he looks to make a fresh start by overcoming the “Greek God” Papadon, a 19-year veteran who has competed all over the world. Papadon will be making his return to ECWA next Saturday.

In a historic encounter, the two most tenured members of the ECWA roster meet one on one for the first time when Chris Wylde collides with Mr. Ooh La La. It will be an interesting clash of styles as the elder statesman of the company endures Wylde’s hard-hitting, high-octane offense.

Also on the card, “Marvelous” Miss Jasmine will defend the ECWA Women’s Championship and “Mile High Magnum” Dak Draper meets “The Man” Johnny Moran in the latter’s ECWA debut.

ECWA New Year’s Resolutions takes place Saturday, January 19, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, Delaware.
