Synergy Ends 2020 Season With Black Friday

It’s the first intergender main event in Synergy history.

We need at least one Thanksgiving tradition to continue in 2020, so why not let it be Synergy Pro Wrestling’s Black Friday?

Considered the New Jersey-based promotion’s season finale, Black Friday is still scheduled for the Monster Factory in Paulsboro, NJ, despite the state instituting more restrictions due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. Colin West, owner of Synergy, doesn’t think the event will be in jeopardy because of how important Black Friday shopping is to retailers, especially this year.

However, his fingers are crossed for the Women’s Garden State Invitational slated for December.

“If you love wrestling, wear a mask and wash your hands,” West says. “If you don’t do that, wrestling may get taken away from us again.”

Only general admission tickets remain for Black Friday, but the event will be streamed live exclusively on Independent Wrestling.TV. Synergy has ended its one-year relationship with FITE TV due to financial and exposure reasons. Whereas Synergy’s events cost $9.99 on FITE TV, IWTV’s monthly subscription costs $10 per month and provides access to live streams, as well as the back catalogs of many promotions.

“I have to be really conscious of the struggle people go through just to support wrestling,” West says. “You buy tickets for you and two friends and then you buy a couple of T-shirts, it’s a $100 night. Maybe you can’t do that right now. IWTV has changed the game since the pandemic and provides the chance to expand our audience. I’m excited by the sheer volume of people who are going to be watching Black Friday.”

Whether you attend the show or watch online, Black Friday is a stacked card, perhaps the biggest in Synergy’s three-year history. Impact Wrestling’s Fallah Bahh, who last worked for West at Christmas for a Cause in 2018, will collide with KTB. Fellow Impact star Ace Austin will return to Synergy for a rubber match with Jordan Oliver. The winner will challenge the Synergy Champion – either Brandon Kirk or Eric Corvis – at the promotion’s first event in 2021.

“Austin vs. Oliver is Punk vs. Cabana right now,” West says. “They tore it up at Synergy’s 3rd Birthday, they tore it up at The Collective and they’re coming back to tear it up again. This is what we call a credibility builder for a promotion.”

In other action, Charles Mason faces Ellis Taylor in a “knock outs or tap outs only” match and Matt Macintosh meets Nicholas Kaye with both men’s future on the line. If Kaye wins, he’ll be reinstated as creative director and has already promised to fire Macintosh on the spot. If Macintosh wins, Kaye is gone from Synergy.

Perhaps a new Black Friday tradition, the Best of the Light Heavyweights will return this year, as six high flyers clash in an elimination match. Announced so far are Matt Vertigo, KC Navarro, Anthony Gaines and Ring of Honor’s Cheeseburger, who was pulled from Synergy’s Shadows event in October.

And then there’s the historic main event (sponsored by Raze Lighting). For the first time in Synergy history, an intergender match will close the show: TJ Crawford will defend the Cruiserweight Crown against Kasey Catal in a street fight. The animosity between these two has been brewing since before the coronavirus outbreak, and after Crawford battered Catal with a baseball bat, Synergy’s starlet is hellbent on getting revenge.

“A lot of people in top matches have built themselves up over the past year,” West says. “Black Friday has the story-driven emotional investment of a good Synergy show and the star power of a GSI.”

Black Friday takes place Nov. 27 at the Monster Factory in Paulsboro, NJ.
