Synergy Pro Wrestling Not Canceling

For The Crown will still take place on March 28 in Hillsborough, NJ.

As of right now, the show will go on next Saturday, according to Synergy Pro Wrestling owner Colin West.

For The Crown, Synergy’s culmination of its cruiserweight tournament, is scheduled to take place on March 28 at the Polish Falcons Nest in Hillsborough, NJ. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has instituted a ban on public gatherings of more than 250 people. Factoring in his roster and staff, West says that Synergy will have a cap of 210 tickets sold for the event.

“I’m not running the show out of pure ignorance just trying to make a buck,” West told The Wrestling Estate. “You deserve someone to step up and go the extra mile to offer you safe, enjoyable entertainment in a tough time. Let’s make sure everybody shows up healthy and everybody goes home healthy.”

There will be several precautions, though. All outdoor ventilation will be open and Lysol wipes will be available. Interaction with wrestlers will be limited to fist bumps, if that. Dives outside the ring will be restricted. Everyone who pre-orders tickets will receive a surgical-grade face mask at the door. West is even willing to supply latex gloves for all attendees.

Of course, if you’re not interested in attending the show, you can still watch live on FITE TV.

A few wrestlers have reached out to see if the event is still on, West says, but so far nobody has canceled. However, if between now and then most wrestlers and fans feel the event is too risky, West says he will do his best to reschedule the show. Fans will either be reimbursed or able to use their ticket at the rescheduled event. As for talent, West says he’ll try to keep the card intact as much as possible.

“I owe them the original booking, so I’ll make sure they get another date with Synergy,” he says. “If a pro wrestler, who is independent and in charge of their own career, tells me they’re not comfortable wrestling on March 28, then I will certainly release them from the obligation.”

While all professional sports leagues (aside from UFC) have suspended their seasons, and the NCAA has canceled its March Madness tournament, the pro wrestling industry, for the most part, hasn’t followed suit. After Tampa officials decided to leave the decision up to WWE, Vince McMahon has yet to cancel WrestleMania 36, scheduled for April 5. Many independent promotions are still planning to run events in Tampa during WrestleMania Week, too.

Conversely, WWE has relocated tonight’s SmackDown to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando with no live audience. AEW has relocated next week’s Dynamite from Rochester, NY, to Jacksonville, FL, where it will emanate from the Khan family-owned Daily’s Place. Ring of Honor has canceled this weekend’s 18th Anniversary pay-per-view and Past vs Present event in Las Vegas.

If Synergy does indeed hold For The Crown as planned, the card is absolutely stacked. The main event features a triple threat between Ellis Taylor, Kasey Catal and TJ Crawford for the Cruiserweight Crown. Synergy Champion Fightmare defends against Desean Pratt, formerly known as Amasis, in the next chapter of their CHIKARA rivalry. The Limitless Wrestling World Championship will be defended on U.S. soil in a promotion other than Limitless for the first time as Anthony Greene defends against Joe Gacy. Also in action, KTB, Brandon Kirk, Tony Deppen, Archadia, Kit Osbourne, Eric Corvis and more.

For The Crown takes place March 28 at the Polish Falcons Nest in Hillsborough, NJ.
