Joey Ryan Returns To PWE

Pro Wrestling Explosion comes to the Wrestle Factory in Philly this Friday.

The penis druids may make a comeback…

Joey Ryan returns to Pro Wrestling Explosion this Friday, and he’s not coming alone. The King of Dong Style is bringing two mystery partners to face Cheeseburger and his Shinobi Shadow Squad (Ryan Nova and Marcus Skyler). Speculation is running rampant as to who Ryan will recruit to combat the Ring of Honor trio.

“How about two male strippers? How about two female strippers? He might pick the camera crew. Maybe a pair of well-endowed aliens? He is full of surprises,” says PWE promoter Erik Viking.

Since 2016, PWE has featured talent from all over the Northeast, holding Sunday afternoon shows geared toward a younger audience. That strategy changed for “Galactic Resolution” in February, which took place on a Friday night at PhilaMOCA, a hipster venue serving alcoholic beverages. It was a smashing success for Viking and company, as capacity was almost reached with over 100 people pounding the ring apron and hanging from the balcony, rooting on Bobby Dempsey in his championship victory over Alex Payne.

“All of our stories culminated at Galactic Resolution,” Viking says. “It was the best show we’ve had in our three years.”

Now it’s time to look toward the future – PWE: The Future Is Extraterrestrial comes to the Wrestle Factory in Northeast Philly this Friday night. Dempsey will defend the PWE Championship against “Retrosexual” Anthony Greene, who made history in February for winning the first Mustache Match. The “Uncle Jesse of Professional Wrestling” has been riding a wave of momentum over the past year, voted Most Entertaining Athlete of 2018 by Synergy Pro Wrestling fans a few months before signing with WWN and EVOLVE Wrestling. He also announced he’ll be working with ZERO1USA to expand its territory to the Northeast, holding his first show on August 18 in Gardner, MA.

Two weeks ago, he appeared on the WWE Network in a losing effort to Josh Briggs at the EVOLVE 10th Anniversary show. Last Saturday, he won the inaugural Garden State Invitational. Viking says that Greene requested the title shot against Dempsey, and he was happy to oblige. “Unlike what we’ve seen in previous PWE Title matches, there won’t be any evil tactics,” Viking says. “This will be a friendly match between two athletes finding out who is the better man.”

The man who lost to Greene in the Mustache Match – Yodeling Yohan Wundershintzel – will look to avenge his loss by taking on CHIKARA favorite Green Ant. In addition to the match, Yohan has special challenge for Green Ant, something the yodeler claims only he can win.

As per tradition in PWE, there will be plenty of unique characters in action. Rhett Titus from Ring of Honor will meet Shockwave the Robot. Motivational speaker Dr. Dan goes one-on-one with extraterrestrial Telepo-1. The humongous Beefcake meets the short, but stocky Grizzly Redwood. In tag team action, get ready for Billy Avery joining forces with Smash Bradley against JOB Security.

It’s not all fun and games, though, as the maniac Joe Gacy collides with TJ Crawford in one of the most anticipated bouts in PWE history. Similar to Greene, Gacy recently appeared on the WWE Network, losing the Tag Team Titles to AR Fox and Leon Ruff at EVOLVE’s 10th Anniversary show. He also competed in the inaugural Garden State Invitational last Saturday. As for Crawford, he is fresh off defeating his ex-partner Freddy Flamingo (in controversial fashion) at PWE’s event in February.

“When booking matches, I look for a clash of styles, whether it’s big man vs. little man or ant vs. yodeler,” Viking says. “But this match is different. It’s going to get wild in there. It could be a brawl or even a super technical match.”

PWE: The Future Is Extraterrestrial takes place Friday, July 26, at the Wrestle Factory in Philadelphia.
