New Jack Returns To The Northeast

Modern Vintage Wrestling held a free show at the H20 Wrestling Center.

Four justifiable homicides. Maybe six after last Saturday night.

The notorious New Jack came to Modern Vintage Wrestling as a favor to promoter Charlie Armstrong, who organized a free event after cancelling a previous show in March. Roughly 90 fans crammed into the H20 Wrestling Center in Williamstown, New Jersey, to witness the ECW icon pick up the staple gun one last time. The fans almost didn’t get their wish as DJ Hyde interrupted intermission with a profanity-laced tirade aimed at New Jack, who responded by slowly getting into the ring to confront the CZW owner. That’s when fellow ECW original CW Anderson attacked New Jack from behind with a steel chair, knocking him out of the ring and smashing the chair into his shoulder wrapped around the steel post.

Several members of the Modern Vintage roster ran out to stop the onslaught, but the damage had already been done. New Jack suffered a separated shoulder and the main event was in jeopardy. That didn’t stop Matt Tremont, owner of H20 Wrestling, from taking on both Anderson and Hyde. Tremont did well for a couple minutes, splashing both men and jacking Anderson’s jaw with some right hands, but eventually the numbers game was just too much for The Bulldozer. As Anderson placed a chair around Tremont’s neck, Hyde was ready to swing another, potentially paralyzing his arch-rival.

That’s when the familiar tune of “Natural Born Killaz” blasted throughout the building, and New Jack emerged with a trash can full of plunder. He broke a crutch over Hyde’s back and broke a vacuum onto Anderson’s abdomen. Outside the ring, Tremont cracked a cookie tray over Hyde’s head and then beat him with a rubber chicken. The brawl ended shortly thereafter with Tremont flying off the top rope with a splash onto Hyde for the victory.

New Jack wasn’t the only big name on the show. Fallah Bahh of Impact Wrestling made his MVW debut, teaming up with equally ginormous Mecha Mercenary. Despite being jumped from behind by Tommy Moose and Chris Banks, the super heavyweights quickly took control of the match, dominating the villainous pair while having fun with the crowd. Bahh did all of his trademark moves, from steamrolling over his opponents to crushing their ribs with a Samoan drop. All along the way, fans chanted “Bahh” as he tagged Mecha to hit a Boss Man Slam and followed up with a bonsai drop for the pin. Afterward, the crowd chanted “Please Come Back,” which delighted Bahh so much that he briefly learned English, responding with “I would love to.”

If people came for New Jack and Bahh, they’ll certainly return for the rest of the MVW roster as there wasn’t a bad match on the card. From Blaxstrom upsetting Colby Corino (whose expecting fiancé had a false alarm during the Super 8 a week before) to Davienne tossing Ava Everett halfway across the ring with a German suplex to third-generation wrestler Nick Curry tapping out Andrew Palace, the crowd maintained high energy throughout the two-hour show. At least one fan even got involved in the action as Stockade picked up a woman in her 20s and slammed her on top of Beastman outside the ring.

No hyperbole – this was the best free show in the history of pro wrestling.
