2018 World Tag League Day 2 Recap

Check out the results of the biggest tag team tournament of the year.

World Tag League rolled into the historic Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on Sunday, setting some early front runners for the biggest tag team tournament of the year. If you missed any or all of the action, have no fear. The Wrestling Estate has you covered.

Opening Match 1: Juice Robinson/ David Finlay vs. Yuya Uemura/ Yota Tsuji

Finlay secured the pin over Uemura with a brain buster. Juice and Finlay have had an easy first two matches so far for early points, but that changes on the 20th when they face the Guerrillas Of Destiny at the Takaoka Technodome.

Opening Match 2: Tomoaki Honma/Ren Narita vs. Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/ Tanga Loa)

In what is the best name for a wrestling move, Tanga Loa hit Narita with Apeshit, an over-the-shoulder reverse piledriver, to advance in the tournament. G.O.D. is my pick to win the whole thing currently. No one can match their aggression or ferocity.

Opening Match 3: Togi Makabe/ Toa Henare/ Satoshi Kojima/ Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Yuji Nagata/ Manabu Nakanishi/ Ayato Yoshida/ Shota Umino

In eight-man tag team action, Henare scored the win for his team, stunning Umino with a Samoan Drop into a side arm suplex.

Opening Match 4: CHAOS (Hirooki Goto/ Beretta/Chuckie T) vs. Kota Ibushi/ Hangman Page/ Yujiro Takahashi

In six-man tag team action, Takahashi snatched the victory after Page knocked out Chuckie T with a buckshot lariat. Goto took a moment after the match to challenge Ibushi to a NEVER Openweight Championship Match again before saying that he gives up and he’s done asking. When he attempted to leave the ring, Ibushi grabbed the mic and asked, “Why? Why do you give up? Let’s do it!”

Presumably the title defense will take place at Wrestle Kingdom 13.

Opening Match 5: CHAOS vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon

Okada secured the win for CHAOS with a Rainmaker to Bushi.

World Tag League Match 5: Suzukigun Prime (Minoru Suzuki/ Takashi Iizuka) vs. Killer Elite Squad (Lance Archer/ Davey Boy Smith Jr.)

The Killer Elite Squad defeated their elders when Archer hit a Killer Bomb on Iizuka for the three count. After the match, the active members of Suzukigun squashed any ill feelings by meeting in the middle of the ring and sharing a salute.

World Tag League Match 6: CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii/Toru Yano) vs. Suzukigun (Zack Sabre Jr./ Taichi)

Suzukigun scored two points when ZSJ locked Ishii into a triangle choke, causing him to pass out and force Red Shoes Jr. to end the match.

World Tag League Match 7: Michael Elgin/ Jeff Cobb vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL/ SANADA)

This was an absolute barn burner. EVIL pinned Cobb after an insane sequence that started with a Magic Killer, which was then reversed after the break up into a Tour Of The Islands, which was reversed again into Everything Is EVIL, reversed again into another Tour Of The Islands, and finally reversed into the Magic Killer for the win.

After the match, EVIL took the mic to vow that he and SANADA would win again before offering the mic again to SANADA, who had refused it last night. SANADA took the mic to comment that Korakuen Hall was his favorite place to wrestle before passing it back to EVIL declaring that “This is evil; Everything is evil!”

In the post-match interview, EVIL stated that he would go back to back as World Tag League Champion, turning NJPW on its head and enveloping the entire world in darkness.
