Vince Steele: Best Of The Big Men

The New York behemoth makes his King of Sports debut on March 26.

Vince Steele is huge.

Not just in the world of professional wrestling, but he is, very literally, a huge man! Standing 6’6 and tipping the scales at 465 pounds, he’s a throwback to the giants of yesteryear. As he told me in an exclusive interview, “heavyweights have been lost in modern wrestling.” His sentiment certainly rings true.

Vince Steele was trained in the legendary Doghouse of New York City. He is one of the few remaining wrestlers in that long line of accomplished graduates. For the last 21 years, he has worked to maintain the super heavyweight division that has been diminished over the previous decade. However, the time of the “big man” has returned.

Last month, King of Sports President Joe Briscoe announced the creation of a true super heavyweight division with a Super Heavyweight Championship. This new division will adhere to traditional weight class standards, meaning that it’s open to all competitors weighing over 285 pounds. All matches in the division will follow traditional professional wrestling rules and mandates, usually involving a single pin fall or submission to score victory.

King of Sports Championship Wrestling has been the home of various “super heavy” competitors over the previous three years. During that time, it has come to the attention of KOS management that these competitors often seek opportunities to prove themselves against the biggest and best in wrestling today. Thus, the KOS Super Heavyweight Championship has been established. This title will be the premier championship for the “super heavy” weight class and establish the pinnacle of this division.

Briscoe’s press release, and the subsequent issuing of the belt design, quickly became the most shared posts in KOS history. This made news not just in the Texas wrestling circle, but throughout all corners of the wrestling industry. The news even reached up to South Boogie, NY, where Vince Steele was intrigued. As the self-proclaimed “best big man in the business today,” the idea of having a title specifically to prove this statement quickly caught his attention and he reached out to Briscoe with a challenge.

“Bring me to Texas, and you will see what a real big man is!” Briscoe quickly obliged.

On Saturday, March 26, at the Chisum High School Gym in Paris, TX, Vince Steele makes his debut in the “Lone Star State.” This isn’t a small one off – nothing with Steele is ever done small. This is the return of the super heavyweights, the return to the King Kong Bundys and the One Man Gangs. This is the return of real giants battling it out for the winner’s purse.

And Vince Steele doesn’t intend to leave empty handed.

King of Sports Championship Wrestling is a traditional wrestling territory promotion that serves Northeast Texas, Southeastern Oklahoma, Southwestern Arkansas and Northwestern Louisiana. KOS welcomes competitors from across North America as it provides the highest quality professional wrestling. KOS is “Texas Strong Style,” and always strives to be “A First-Class Sporting Event.”
