Jamie Holley Is A Strongman Of Yesteryear

King of Sports Championship Wrestling returns to Paris, TX on Jan. 29.

Few know what it’s like to sling a 100-pound kettle bell over your head and hold it there. Fewer know what it’s like to then do the same to a human being! Jamie Holley is one of those few people.

A strongman in the classical sense, Jamie Holley trains like the old timers did a century ago. Using axle bars, kettle bells and barbells, the Texan trains those muscles that a bodybuilder never could, which provides him with supreme strength in the ring. Focused on holding, lifting, pressing and throwing incredibly heavy objects, this manner of training was popularized at the turn to the 20th century. Holley has mastered anyhow lifts, hub lifting and balanced axle bars lifting, each old-school regimen working aspects of the body that today’s athletes have forgotten.

The 10-year veteran of the mat dedicated himself fully to this method of training since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Forced to exercise at home, Jamie Holly, with his own bare, rugged hands, constructed the legendary equipment that had long since become out of fashion to modern gym goers. Learning these antiquated workouts took time and discipline. After all, the anyhow lift is so rarely seen that it’s difficult to pick up.

In this lift, Holley lifts a weighted barbell over his head using only one hand. While balancing that weight, he then squats to grab another heavy kettle bell with his free hand. Then lifting both simultaneously, he holds this position for as long as possible. Requiring strength and balance, it’s a feat of a time long since passed.

One of the byproducts of this method is incredible grip strength. You can’t throw heavy objects around unless you can sufficiently grab those objects. As a consequence, Holley has developed the strongest hands in Texas independent wrestling. When he grabs you, it’s like being trapped in a vice. You simply can’t escape!

These hands are a key to how Holley wins his matches. An opponent can’t mount offense when “The Strongman” has him firmly in his grasp. Those same hands can manhandle even the toughest of opponents.

Jamie Holley will be in action this Saturday as part of King of Sports Championship Wrestling in Paris, TX. Having partnered with Paris ISD to hold a student fundraiser event in the middle school gym, King of Sports is bringing all the top wrestling talent from throughout the state. This event is wrestling the way it used to be: a top-notch athletic contest, entertaining for all ages of fans.

The main event features “The Bad Man from South Carolina” Mike Gunner teaming up with Big Fitz to face old rivals Bam Bam Malone and “The Real Deal” Nobe Bryant. Holley will take on Ryker James, and in other action, there will be a dog collar chain match!

But there is blight on the pristine reputation of King of Sports, owned and operated by the legendary UWF wrestler, Joe Briscoe. That blight comes with a name and mouth that almost never stops running. J. J. Hart has associated himself with some of the biggest and meanest of the King of Sports competitors.
