Could Becky Lynch Be in Line for Big Return Ahead of Money in the Bank?

Rumors about Becky Lynch making a return to in-ring action in WWE are continuing to circulate.

Rumors about Becky Lynch making a return to in-ring action in WWE are continuing to circulate. “The Man” got over in a major way prior to her time away and headlined WrestleMania 35 against contemporary Charlotte Flair and MMA crossover star Ronda Rousey.

Victory in that triple-threat main event earned Lynch another moniker, “Becky Two Belts”, as the win came with both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. That crowning moment followed her win in the 2019 Royal Rumble.

That success means the “Irish Lass Kicker” has accomplished almost everything there is to do in WWE from her original run. One major accolade missing from Lynch’s resume, however, is a Money in the Bank ladder match win.

It just so happens that the upcoming pay-per-view, after she was spotted backstage at a go-home edition of SmackDown before Hell in a Cell, is Money in the Bank itself. The winner of the Money in the Bank ladder match receives a guaranteed championship match any time within the next 12 months.

There are often online betting options available on Money in the Bank, and Lynch looks sure to be among the favorites for the briefcase now. Besides wagering on the winner of the ladder match, bookmakers even have markets on when that individual will cash in. Like the Royal Rumble winner, this has become a popular annual prop bet for wrestling fans.

Lynch has also been spotted training in the WWE Performance Center in Florida, where the premier wrestling promotion has been based for much of the last 18 months. Using Money in the Bank as a successful return for Lynch would have an apt sense of symmetry from a booking perspective.

After Asuka won the 2020 edition of the women’s match in May 2020, Lynch urged “The Empress of Tomorrow” to open the briefcase. Rather than the usual contract, inside was the Raw Women’s Championship belt. Lynch’s hiatus from WWE followed.

It’s clear that she has been preparing for her comeback for some time. Money in the Bank is also the first WWE PPV taking place outside the Sunshine State since Elimination Chamber 2020. Speaking of that structure, Lynch has never stepped inside it and wrestled either.

Her record in previous Money in the Bank ladder matches is zero from three in 2017 and 2018. Carmella (twice) and Alexa Bliss went over and unhooked the briefcase in Lynch’s previous appearances. With WWE preparing for the return of crowds, a surprise or even scheduled appearance in Fort Worth, Texas on July 18th would get a huge pop.

Lynch’s return in the run-up to SummerSlam in Las Vegas would add some extra star power to the women’s division. There have been a number of departures from the company in recent months due to budget cuts, although the likes of Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley, also graduates of WWE’s NXT developmental territory, have enjoyed main roster pushes as new faces.

Some of Lynch’s old rivals in Bayley, Charlotte, and Sasha Banks shared the ring with these in recent months, cast as heels alongside Bliss. Both Belair and Ripley were crowned as respective SmackDown and Raw champs at WrestleMania 37. “The Man” should still prove a big draw when she does step back between the ropes.
