Joey Ace Invades Warriors Of Wrestling

The ECWA Heavyweight Champion wants more gold.

ECWA Heavyweight Champion Joey Ace caused a ruckus yet again, invading New York City-based Warriors of Wrestling on April 17.

After W.O.W. Heavyweight Champion Roger Mendez defeated Little Guido (aka Nunzio in WWE) to end W.O.W.’s Cause n’ Effect, the “Champagne Papi” returned to his old stomping grounds unannounced, interrupting the champion’s celebration. Both men raised their belts before Ace dropped his to pounce on Mendez. A kick to the gut was followed by Ace’s 88 Special, a standing Sliced Bread #2 and flying elbow drop combo.

“Triple crown, huh,” Ace asked the crowd, before lifting both titles above the fallen Mendez.

Ace does have quite the history in Warriors of Wrestling, having won the No-Limits Championship in 2014 and successfully defending against the likes of Drew McIntyre, Matt Macintosh and Marq Quen of Private Party. He also held the Tag Team Titles with Steve Sterling in 2013. Apparently, the greasy glory hound isn’t satisfied with being both ECWA and WORLD-1 Wrestling Champion.

It’s actually a wise strategy for Ace to target the W.O.W. Heavyweight Champion because he only has two weeks left with the ECWA’s richest prize. At the 25th annual Super 8, his nearly eight-month reign will come to an end at the hands of the legendary Mr. Ooh La La. It’ll also be the end of Ace’s Super 8 streak: he won his first ECWA Heavyweight Championship at the 2019 Super 8 and won his second at last year’s tournament.

Third time won’t be the charm for the most despicable man in pro wrestling.

Let’s talk about someone who deserves our attention. For over 30 years, Mr. Ooh La La has been a staple of the independent wrestling scene, spending most of that time in ECWA. When he first graced the Delaware crowd with his presence, the French icon riled up fans with his ode to Rick Rude, performing hilarious stripteases. Over time, he earned the fans’ respect for his craftiness and resiliency, winning the Tag Team Titles and Mid-Atlantic Championship on multiple occasions.

So, if we’re talking about the triple crown, Mr. Ooh La La has his chance to make history on May 1. He earned the opportunity of a lifetime, perhaps his last opportunity given his age and the nature of the sport, in a battle royal at PretzelMania IV. As a result, he could choose to either enter the Super 8 for the first time or get a shot at the only championship that’s eluded him. Leaving it up to the ECWA faithful, as usual, Ooh La La has given the people what they want.

Now we want one more thing – a new champion. A true hero we can rally behind.

Mr. Ooh La La may not be as good as he once was, but at the Super 8, we need him to be as good as he ever was.

The 25th Annual Super 8 takes place Saturday, May 1, at The Jersey Dugout in Morganville, NJ.
