Dasher Hatfield Enters ECWA Super 8

The 24th annual tournament takes place April 18 in New Castle, DE.

The Wrestling Estate has learned the final name slated for the 24th annual ECWA Super 8.

Dasher Hatfield is scheduled for the one-night tournament on April 18 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, DE. This will be the first Super 8 organized under Joe Zanolle, who took over the promotion in December.

“Dasher Hatfield is out to prove himself in the Super 8,” Zanolle says. “A pretty well-versed veteran in the Northeast, Hatfield is known and recognized by his very creative character. But Hatfield wants the wrestling world to know he is so much more than a character. He’ll have that chance on April 18. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the Super 8.”

A 13-year veteran of the squared circle, Hatfield is the current CHIKARA Grand Champion. He’s been a fixture of the colorful promotion ever since stepping foot in the ring as Create A Wrestler, in which the fans would suggest gimmicks for him. Bringing plenty of flavor to the Super 8, he’s also competed as Ultimo Breakfast and Moscow The Communist Bovine. In 2009, he transformed into Dasher Hatfield – a baseball player turned wrassler, referred to as the “Old Timey King of Swing.”

“Only the very best wrestlers are invited to compete in the Super 8,” Hatfield told The Wrestling Estate. “Winning this tournament is my opportunity to never be called ‘underrated’ again.”

The Wrestling Estate has been the go-to media source for all of this year’s and even last year’s Super 8 announcements. We’ve broken the news on several participants entering the tournament:

Archadia – the last Jersey All-Pro Wrestling Light Heavyweight Champion

Chris Rockwell – current World-1 Wrestling Champion

Jake Something – aka Cousin Jake in Impact Wrestling

KTB – the one guy that Synergy Pro Wrestling owner Colin West says should already be signed by a major promotion

Vinny Pacifico – current member of Future of Honor

Also announced are ECWA Mid-Atlantic Champion Eric Martin and Ricky Reyes aka Cortez Castro from Lucha Underground.

For almost a quarter century, the ECWA Super 8 Tournament has become a launching pad for undiscovered, up-and-coming talents to get noticed throughout the industry. Previous winners include former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, former MLW World Heavyweight Champion Low Ki, former ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels, seven-time WWE Tag Team Champion Xavier Woods and many other notable names. In recent years, the Super 8 has propelled participants into MLW. Richard Holliday won the 2018 tourney and the Von Erichs competed in last year’s Legacy tourney, which featured all second and third-generation wrestler.

Even if you don’t take home the trophy, an impressive showing in the tournament can raise your stock. Look no further than Ty Awesome, whose breakout performance in the 2018 edition led him to the ECWA Heavyweight Championship.

The 24th Annual Super 8 takes place Saturday, April 18, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, DE.
