Vinny Pacifico Enters ECWA Super 8

The 24th annual tournament takes place April 18 in New Castle, DE.

The Wrestling Estate has learned the first name slated for the 24th annual ECWA Super 8.

Vinny Pacifico is scheduled for the one-night tournament on April 18 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, DE. This will be the first Super 8 organized under Joe Zanolle, who took over the promotion in December.

“Vinny Pacifico is the embodiment of what the ECWA Super 8 has always been about,” Zanolle told The Wrestling Estate. “Someone who you may or may not know, with incredible potential, talent, making waves and having a never say die attitude. You need that attitude to make it to and win round 3. In ways, Vinny is the ultimate underdog; hence his mantra DVCO (Don’t Count Vinny Out). A mantra that the other seven competitors in this year’s tournament would be wise to heed.”

The New York native broke into the sport in 2015, taking his first steps in the squared circle at just 15 years old. A former Warriors of Wrestling No Limits Champion, Pacifico has spent the past year honing his craft on the Northeast indie circuit, making it to the finals of the King of New York tournament. He’s currently a member of Future of Honor, Ring of Honor’s training class, and has lost only one bout in his ROH career.

“The Super 8 tournament is truly one of the most prestigious tournaments in pro wrestling,” Pacifico says. “It’s a complete honor to be a part of it. ‘Don’t. Count. Vinny. Out!!!’ is more than just a catchphrase. It’s my way of life. In the Super 8 tournament, I’ll be able to show everyone what it truly means. I’m as ready as I’ve ever been and this is truly a great opportunity to show it.”

For almost a quarter century, the ECWA Super 8 Tournament has become a launching pad for undiscovered, up-and-coming talents to get noticed throughout the industry. Previous winners include former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, former MLW World Heavyweight Champion Low Ki, former ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels, seven-time WWE Tag Team Champion Xavier Woods and many other notable names. In recent years, the Super 8 has propelled participants into MLW. Richard Holliday won the 2018 tourney and the Von Erichs competed in last year’s Legacy tourney, which featured all second and third-generation wrestler.

Even if you don’t take home the trophy, an impressive showing in the tournament can raise your stock. Look no further than Ty Awesome, whose breakout performance in the 2018 edition led him to the ECWA Heavyweight Championship.

The next two names in the 2020 edition are scheduled to be announced on Jan. 18 at ECWA’s New Year’s Resolutions at the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, DE. Sam Shields will defend his newly won ECWA Heavyweight Championship against former PCA brethren Joey Ace. Also in action, former Super 8 winner Napalm Bomb will meet Killian McMurphy and Tahir James to crown a new ECWA Mid-Atlantic Champion.

The 24th Annual Super 8 takes place Saturday, April 18, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, DE.
