Roundtable: Fave Wrestling Couples

Happy Valentine’s Day!

In this edition of The Wrestling Estate roundtable, we name our favorite wrestling couples of all time.

The Miz and Maryse

As a devoted viewer of Miz & Mrs., I can attest to the love and devotion that WWE’s “it couple” have for each other. Since Maryse returned to WWE in 2016 to help out her man, they’ve become the highlight of every show they’re on. – John Corrigan

Eddie and Vickie Guerrero

Eddie Guerrero is one of, if not the best workers ever. On the same note, Vickie may be the most entertaining manager and heel authority figure of all time. They are true wrestling royalty. – Sam Gladen

Adrian Street and Miss Linda

“Exotic” Adrian and Miss Linda were Goldust and Marlena before Goldust and Marlena. Their act played with gender and sexuality in ways that would still feel daring in 2019, and the strength of their real-life relationship provided an authenticity that drove fans crazy wondering what was going on. – David Gibb

Joey Janela and Penelope Ford

I hold out hope every morning that Janelope will reunite. Their real-life relationship made for excellent chemistry in the ring. Outside the ring, they’re two of the nicest, coolest people you’ll ever meet in the pro wrestling industry. – John Corrigan

Cody and Brandi Rhodes

I mean, how can you not include these two? When Cody Rhodes left WWE, his wife Brandi, then a backstage interviewer known as “Eden Stiles,” went with him. Since then, Brandi has become part of Cody’s act on camera and behind the scenes, really elevating each other. Brandi’s presence as a valet helps fill gaps in Cody’s ring work (not a knock, I swear!) while Cody’s interview ability has helped Brandi come out of her shell a bit. Both now hold administrative titles in AEW and while we’ll get a better handle on what those mean down the line, it seems these two have an unbreakable bond in an industry infamous for breaking bonds. That’s pretty special. – Jack Goodwillie

Bea Priestley and Will Ospreay

Although their work together in WCPW was brief, they did leave a lasting impression with fans wanting the real-life couple to partner up again very soon. They were able to draw heat by taking short cuts and being snotty and annoying. – Juan Bautista

Edge and Beth Phoenix

Both were absolute juggernauts of the Attitude Era and have now moved into new roles within the company. Phoenix has transitioned tactfully to an on-screen commentary role for the MMC and Mae Young Classic, while Edge has transitioned into mainstream success as an actor on History’s Vikings and the E&C show that Totally Reeks of Awesomeness. – Sam Gladen

Billy and Chuck

It’s amazing to think back in 2002 that the Billy and Chuck storyline actually happened. It was a very brave thing for WWE to present, but somehow it caught on and created one of the most memorable couples in wrestling history. – Steven Jackson

Can any other wrestling couple call themselves two-time tag champs?! Come on, no brainer! – Anthony Mahalis

Jimmy Garvin and Precious

Often overlooked today, Jimmy Garvin and Precious were an awesome heel couple in WCCW. Their real-life marriage perfectly transcended their professional relationship, making one of the most hated couples in history. – Steven Jackson

Their chemistry was infectious, probably because they’re married in real life and have been together longer than it takes Calvin to send a Royal Rumble review. – John Corrigan

Edge and Lita

They were perfect for each other. A couple of sleazy and filthy heels. To the live sex show celebration to holding the WWE Championship and Women’s Championship at the same time, they generated authentic heat, even against the universally loathed John Cena. – Juan Bautista

I know their union came under controversial circumstances, but they were fantastic together and their pairing took Edge to the next level, cementing both Edge and Lita as the WWE Hall of Famers that they are today. – Chad Gelfand

There’s a lot of…baggage when it came to the Edge and Lita relationship and the surrounding circumstances. And I know they’re not together anymore. That said, you cannot deny the chemistry these two had on screen; it was electric and easy to see why they were drawn to each other in the first place. As a kid, I hated these two; so much so that I couldn’t see the forest through the trees that Lita was in fact a beautiful woman because she was just so good at making me despise her. A lot of that had to do with Edge, who is probably among my top-5 greatest of all time and definitely in my top-10. The Rated-R Superstar found an incredible niche as this evil, unredeemable sack of shit heel, but I dare say a lot of that had to do with Lita. Talk about a symbiotic relationship. – Jack Goodwillie

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

First off, I HATE Valentine’s Day. On a year-to-year basis, I generally have more traditions for Groundhog Day than V-Day (shout out Mark Macyk and his latest book K2B22M now available on Prime). So even though you didn’t ask for it, I’m going to give you the three worst couples in wrestling history before I talk about Triple H and Stephanie McMahon: Paige and Alberto Del Rio, Stone Cold and Debra, and Miss Elizabeth and Lex Luger. Why? Well let’s see… Del Rio is slowly being blackballed from upper North America, Stone Cold popularized the viral YouTube video BEAT DEBRA and the Luger-Liz union met a strange and tragic end. So I guess what I’m really trying to say here is that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon… they’re alright, I guess. – Jack Goodwillie

The ultimate power couple. How could they not be on the list? The Authority gimmick gets old now and again, but they are an all-time couple. – Anthony Mahalis

It’s all about the game and how you play it. It’s all about control and if you can take it. (J/K. They seem like nice people.) – David Gibb

Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth

They are the gold standard of wrestling couples. Everyone knows that. – Anthony Mahalis

The ultimate pro wrestling couple and the blueprint for all to follow. Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth are the one couple you immediately think of when this question gets asked. Utterly timeless, their relationship will live forever. – Steven Jackson

The original wrestling “it couple.” Miss Elizabeth and the Macho Man took storyline to a whole other level and extended kayfabe. – Sam Gladen

It doesn’t matter what generation of wrestling fan you are, Randy and Liz are your favorite wrestling couple and if they aren’t, then you simply don’t know the story. Through the good, bad, ugly and the eventual reunion, the fans went on a rollercoaster that led to the greatest wrestling wedding ever. – Juan Bautista

Savage and Elizabeth presented another perfect odd-couple, matching an unhinged wildman with a tenuous grip on reality with the kind, quiet winner of a beauty pageant at your local mall. Their on-screen romance touched fans’ hearts in a way that will never be replicated. – David Gibb
