Why Eddie Why?

The Philly crowd was left speechless at House of Hardcore 43.

Tommy Dreamer has been betrayed yet again. Except this time, the knife didn’t go through his back.

It went into his skull.

As Dreamer and Eddie Edwards pummeled the Crist brothers on Saturday night, smashing them with chairs and crutches and anything else in arm’s reach, victory seemed certain for the newfound friends. The carnage was especially therapeutic for Edwards, who has been craving revenge for months after oVe leader Sami Callihan bashed his head in with a baseball bat.

After dropping Jake Crist with an old-school piledriver, Dreamer hoisted Dave Crist onto his shoulders for a Spicolli Driver. Then it happened: a gunshot echoed throughout the 2300 Arena as Edwards cracked Dreamer with a Singapore cane. The bloodthirsty Philly crowd gasped, their hero blindsided.

Edwards continued the assault, stabbing a spike into the scarred flesh of his friend, the man who saved him from attacks and even bailed him out of jail. The wrestling world was left speechless as Edwards trudged to the back; the House of Hardcore owner motionless, donning a crimson mask in the ring.

Nobody understands why Edwards didn’t come out later in the night to attack the man who actually put him in the hospital. Callihan went to war with HOH Twitch TV Champion Willie Mack, the first time the title has been defended in HOH’s home base. The chaos continued as both warriors brawled into the crowd, whipping each other into the steel guardrail and a row of fan-held chairs. Callihan was more intent on inflicting pain than winning the gold, avoiding a cover multiple times to bask in the fear of the HOH faithful. When he finally attempted a pin, after powerbombing Mack into a pile of chairs, somehow the champion kicked out.

A stunner turned things around, followed by a Van Terminator and a frog splash to give Mack the hard-fought victory.

As part of the Impact Wrestling invasion, HOH 43 was a night of new arrivals: LAX broke out of their slump, tearing the house down with a win over The Squad. Chelsea Green, aka former Knockouts Champion Laurel Van Ness, made many hearts skip a beat as she defeated the newcomer Paredyse. Of course, credit goes to Kelly Kelly for yanking Paredyse’s valet Rebel off the apron, much to the fans’ delight.

And Eli Drake entered the historic ECW Arena for the first time, failing to endear himself to the “basement dwelling virgins” while declaring independence from hardcore wrestling and 450 splashes. After several attempts of the Gravy Train, Drake just couldn’t put away fellow Impact star Moose, and ate a rib-breaking spear for his troubles.

In other action, Brian Cage faced Ace Romero in a modern-day irresistible force meets immovable object. Despite Cage’s prominence on TV, the crowd sided with Acey Baby, cheering on the big man with every elbow strike, deafening slap and ill-fated dive to the floor. Ultimately, Cage’s strength was just too powerful as The Machine F-5ed Romero for the victory.

It was a big night for another Ace, as CZW Dojo Wars regular Ace Austin made his HOH debut, albeit in losing fashion to Clayton Gainz. Afterward, the crowd gave a standing ovation for Austin’s performance, indicating that he’d be welcome back anytime.

Alex Reynolds got lucky once again, holding the ropes while trapping JT Dunn in the British Bulldog pin from SummerSlam 92. And Bull James managed to pick up a win over Joey Mercury in the opening bout.
