5 Dream Matches for Daniel Bryan

Now that the leader of the Yes Movement has returned to the ring, who will he set his sights on?

One of the most remarkable stories of 2018 is the recent announcement of Daniel Bryan’s in-ring return, which is a dream come true for wrestling fans. WWE has the most stacked roster in the history of the company with incredible workers and characters for Bryan to interact with. Now that the Superstar Shakeup has passed, let’s take a look at five dream matches that he could have this year.

The first dream match is one we actually saw the first chapter of a couple weeks ago: AJ Styles. Bryan and Styles are cut from the same cloth, tremendous workers in the ring and fan favorites as well. Both were positioned as villains at their start in WWE, but the crowd just loved them too much for them to stay heels. The former ROH World Champion had a harder climb to the title, whereas the former Impact Wrestling stalwart was given more of the red carpet treatment. But together they’d have a tremendous series of matches if given the opportunity. It’s a dream scenario where either man could be heel or face or even both could be face and the crowd would just go crazy for it. Who’s the better worker? That’s a tough question that could be debated forever. Either way this dream match would simply phenomenal.

A second dream match that we could easily see is Daniel Bryan versus Shinsuke Nakamura. For my money, this is the match I’d be the most excited for. Nakamura has not yet had that stellar five-star wrestling match in WWE that we all know he’s capable of. But if there’s anyone who could bring it out of him, it’s Bryan. The Flying Goat has only got one speed and that’s balls to the wall. These two would put on a clinic. Nakamura is heel right now, which is great. I’m superbly optimistic that he will be a great villain. Let’s have him and Bryan have a brilliant heel vs. face match please!

Next we have a dream match that’s been building already through a war of words. I’m sure there is still simmering resentment and hatred between Bryan and his original NXT pro, The Miz. They have a long history together which really came to a head on an episode of Talking Smack where the Miz cut one of his best promos ever. It was real and it was personal. He attacked Bryan’s personal life and how he was retired. Now that Bryan is back, it should be easy to reinvigorate that feud and turn it into a full-fledged rivalry. The match won’t necessarily be a five-star classic, but I think the emotion and the hatred between the two (whether it’s kayfabe or not) will make it feel like a really big deal when these two lock up.

Fourth from the top, and maybe other fans would place this monster of a man higher on their list, but it’s Samoa Joe. This would be a hard-hitting slugfest. Joe has been utilized excellently in WWE since he was called up from NXT. The promos these two would have against each other would be excellent. Bryan would play the underdog very well against the imposing challenger. Joe is just so good at being a mean, miserable bastard to anyone who crosses his path. It would be an interesting match to say the least.

The fifth and final scenario that would have the biggest reaction from the WWE Universe would be against Roman Reigns. The Big Dog vs. the leader of the Yes Movement has money written all over it. It could be a modern-day Bret versus Shawn or Cena versus Punk if done correctly. This is a situation where either man could play the heel and the crowd would still be way into it. Roman and Bryan did have a match before at WWE Fastlane that was pretty great, so you know the matches these two would put together would be great. It would be a tremendous rivalry for the fans that would take advantage of the split feelings against Roman Reigns to the nth degree.

Finally, here’s a few honorable mentions: Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, a returning Dean Ambrose, Rusev and Pete Dunne. Anyone of these superstars could have incredible matches or feuds with Daniel Bryan that would be great.
