WrestlePro Joins Brewery Battle

A rivalry has been brewing between Neshaminy Creek and Against The Grain.

A beer bash is coming to Croydon, Pennsylvania, that ol’ Stone Cold would be proud of.

There will be a battle of the breweries on March 17 as Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company (NCBC) welcomes Louisville, Kentucky-based Against The Grain Brewery to settle their differences inside the squared circle. In addition, WrestlePro will be making its debut in Pennsylvania, presenting matches inside the brewery warehouse.

The event is titled “Hops & Headlocks,” and it’s the latest activity in NCBC’s ongoing effort to attract more customers to its fine establishment. “We wanted to try some different events, not the typical things that breweries always do,” said Jeff Meyers, event coordinator at NCBC.

As old-school wrestling fans, the brewery team thought it would be fun to get involved in the action, and found a suitable opponent in Against The Grain. Over the past couple months, the breweries have been verbally sparring on social media, with the southern company igniting the war by vowing to enter and dominate the “underserved” Philadelphia market.

As a result, the “Lager City Loudmouth” Tommy Provolone and “Hot Sauce” Colin Shawcross have challenged Against The Grain to meet in the ring at Hops &Headlocks. “We wanted to treat it like the old-school wrestling where there are the promo videos where you’re talking shit,” Meyers said. “We’re also going to have some merchandise with the old halftone look of the Eighties wrestling shirts.”

Two years ago, before the social media friction, the breweries collaborated to create a Belgian-style Quad. That beer, Four Corners Quad, is going to be unleashed on the world at Hops & Headlocks.

“When we brewed Four Corners we also tucked a little over 300 gallons away in Jack Daniels Rye barrels. Three weeks ago we pulled some sweet nectar from those barrels and concocted a blend that highlights the rich, dark fruit character of plums, raisins, and figs from the Quad with the vanilla and spice character of the Jack Daniels Rye along with the rustic quality of the wood it was aged in.”

500 bottles of Four Corners Rye Barrel Aged Quad will be made available to the public.

It will be a night of firsts for all three parties: WrestlePro has never come to the Keystone State, Against The Grain has never catered to the PA market and NCBC has never hosted a pro wrestling event before. “Our facility has a very big warehouse in the back, so we’re going to set the ring up back there and have a bar back there, too,” Meyers said. “It’s going to be cool for people who have never been here because they’ll enter though our tap room and then walk through our brew house to get to the back where the event is. It will be like a whole tour of the facility.”

Meyers estimates that a few hundred people can fit in the warehouse, so he is expecting a big turnout. Of course, with the event taking place on St. Patrick’s Day, it won’t be hard getting folks to come out for a beer. “We don’t generally cater to those big party days like St. Patty’s Day or Mardi Gras,” he said. “Nothing against St. Patty’s Day, but not everybody wants to celebrate it so this is something else for people to do on that day.”

WrestlePro regulars like Pat Buck, Dan Maff, Nikos Rikos, Matt Macintosh, Anthony Bowens and more will be in competition. Meyers expect there to be nine bouts in total. “It will be more than just a bunch of matches, though,” he added. “There will be a storyline throughout the night based on the two breweries feuding with fun little twists involved.”

Hops & Headlocks takes place at Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company in Croydon, PA, on Mar. 17.
