Venues That Should Host Wrestling Events

Once social distancing ends and the coronavirus passes, wrestling needs to go bigger than ever.

When it comes to pro wrestling, bigger is better, especially in terms of venues.

Promoters have historically worked to break out of high school gyms and armories to run large venues. World Class Championship Wrestling would run its biggest events of the year at Texas Stadium. WrestleMania moved from arenas to stadiums and domes. After coronavirus ends and the industry can resume, these are the venues that should host major wrestling shows.

Yankee Stadium

While it’s not the original stadium, it still has the same charm. The New York crowd does not disappoint and with some moving around in the stadium you can get creative with the stage set. Instead of having the entrance way coming out of the dugout, promotions can have the entrance way go through Monument Park, which is in center field. You can have max capacity due to the big screen being in center field. The stadium also has a lot to offer by having a Hard Rock cafe along with other places to dine.

Bristol Motor Speedway

A venue mostly associated with motorsports has recently hosted a college football game. With 160,000 capacity in the grandstands to go along with a new jumbotron, Bristol Motor Speedway is prime for the ultimate wrestling experience. A unique entrance way could develop if you decide to have wrestlers come out of the tunnel like NASCAR has done driver intros in years past. In another year or two, maybe the NWA could hold a Crockett Cup there due to the southern demographic and presenting an old-fashioned, gritty style of wrasslin’.

Fenway Park

If you’re talking potential wrestling venues, you can’t ignore Fenway. The oldest ballpark in America could produce unique sights and sounds. The commentators could sit in the green monster like ESPN did for Sunday Night Baseball.

Astrodome

A stadium that was left for dead has now been revitalized and is ready to knock the dust off the seats. How poetic would it be for NWA, a dead brand that has risen like a phoenix, to hold a pay-per-view there? WWE could also revisit the site of what most people say is the greatest WrestleMania ever.

L.A. Coliseum

Now that the Coliseum has experienced a face lift, it is now more appealing to host major shows. The ship has sailed on WWE hosting a big four at the Coliseum because it likes the shiny new toys in the California market. AEW can host Double or Nothing here if they move out of Vegas for a year. If NJPW pulls the trigger on hosting Wrestle Kingdom outside of Japan, this would be perfect.

Wrigley Field

While the rooftop parties won’t be at the same level due to the recent renovations, the friendly confines will still provide an atmosphere unlike no other. The New Day can sing a parody of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” MJF can just talk shit to the fans and it will be from the same booth that Harry Caray called games from, which overlooks the crowd.

Daytona International Speedway

Now that it has been confirmed that the track will host professional soccer games on the front stretch of the track the next event to have is professional wrestling. The track has the capability to put on a massive fireworks show. Since AEW has rights to Bash at the Beach, it can put the event back on the map by having the event at Daytona International Speedway. It also makes sense cause Lake Lloyd sits in the infield of the track. The crowd size wouldn’t be hurt because if the stage gets set up on pit road, there’s enough room where it won’t affect the seating.
