Review: New Day’s ‘The Book of Booty’

Your mind will seep with the power of positivity with every turn of the page.

You’ve eaten their cereal. You’ve strapped on their unicorn horn.

Now it’s time to get an education.

The latest piece in The New Day’s endless array of merchandise has just been released: “The Book of Booty.” While this may appear to be a shameless cash grab, it’s actually a fun 166 pages perfect for children while still enjoyable for adults. It’s like the Animaniacs with less “fingerPrince” and more rainbows.

The colorful, vibrant and snarky book celebrates the trio’s historic 483-day reign as Tag Team Champions, documenting their unlikely journey from “New Day Sucks!” to “New Day Rocks!”. The quick read includes quizzes, lists, charts, games, infographics, a glossary (This book is tender vittles) and even a mini coloring book. You can’t help but feel the power of positivity while playing Mad Libs and marveling at Xavier Woods’ creative hairstyles.

From their favorite school subjects to pet peeves, everything you’ve ever wanted to know about The New Day is in this book. (Sadly, Kofi is a Patriots fan.) There are also brief biographies on the three members’ careers before they joined forces, reminding you how far Big E has come from his initial days as the stereotypical silent bodyguard. Of course, that’s what the influence of Whoolio the Owl will do to you.

Speaking of New Day’s spirit animals/lesser-known characters, I’d be remiss to not mention “The Book of Booty” has been dedicated to Francesca 1 and Francesca II, Xavier’s beloved trombones that met their tragic, untimely demises in 2016. Casualties in the pursuit of greatness.

“The Book of Booty” is a collaborative effort, and not just by The New Day. Greg Adkins and Ryan Murphy are listed as co-authors: Akins, senior digital content editor at WWE who according to LinkedIn has been there since 2007, has also worked as a reporter for People Magazine; Murphy, executive editorial director at WWE, who has worked in a variety of roles at the company since 2009, was a freelance writer for Men’s Fitness and associate web editor at FHM.

My favorite part is each member’s respective top ten list: Big E ranks musical artists (Ironically, Biggie doesn’t crack Big E’s list), Kofi looks back on his ten freshest kicks and Xavier reveals his favorite video games. (WrestleMania 2000 is mentioned, but No Mercy is snubbed!)

As a matter of fact, there is an entire section devoted to UpUpDownDown, Xavier’s widely popular video game YouTube channel. Since 2015, he has hosted the content under the moniker “Austin Creed,” and has filmed fellow WWE Superstars, celebrities and other known gamers battling it out. In addition to Rusev dominating Roman Reigns in FIFA 17 and Sasha Banks giving Bayley a hideous makeover, the channel also features a unique spin on the traditional interview format, as Xavier chats up guests like Stephanie McMahon while playing Streets of Rage 2.

From a Booty O’s Marshmallow Treats recipe to a Big E’s hip, swivel and shimmy tutorial, “The Book of Booty” is a must for every New Day fan. It’s probably the most fun product WWE has put out since the Network.
