Kaia McKenna Enters Women’s Super 8
The tournament takes place on July 31.
The Wrestling Estate has learned the fourth name slated for the 2021 ECWA Women’s Super 8.
Kaia McKenna is scheduled for the one-night tournament on July 31 at The Monster Factory in Paulsboro, NJ. She’ll join Gabby Ortiz, Ashley D’Amboise and Vicious Vicki.
Having been in the sport for less than a year, “The Good Witch” has already cast a spell upon the wrestling world. A native of Ocean City, MD, Kaia McKenna trained at The Black & Brave Wrestling Academy, which is run by Marek Brave and former WWE Champion Seth Rollins. So far, she’s competed in GCW, Beyond and other well-known promotions.
“To be in the Women’s Super 8 is such an honor,” Kaia McKenna told The Wrestling Estate. “It’s a legacy tournament; one I can recall watching growing up, and it’s incredible to see where those participants have ended up today. As a wrestler, I can’t think of a better way to end my rookie year than standing toe to toe with some of the best women on the indies.”
The ECWA Women’s Super 8 (originally called the Super 8 ChickFight) began in 2014 as an extension of the historic Super 8, the longest-running pro wrestling tournament in the United States. Similar to the men’s version, the women’s tournament has become a launching pad for undiscovered, up-and-coming talents to get noticed throughout the industry. Tessa Blanchard, the first winner, and Deonna Purrazzo, the only back-to-back winner, have gone on to Impact Wrestling, and McKay has been signed by Ring of Honor. Previous participants have included Britt Baker, Kiera Hogan, Maria Manic, Santana Garrett, among other notable names.
“We missed 2018 and 2020 with COVID, but we are back on track for the sixth edition,” says ECWA owner Joe Zanolle. “We just celebrated the 25th edition for the men and we are looking forward to building that long legacy with the women. Look at the talent of the first five Women’s Super 8s. That is the quality and young talent you will see this year. We are so glad to showcase these women competitors who work just as hard as the men. And you will not be seeing Divas, but trained and skilled professional wrestlers and athletes.”
The commentary team for this year’s ECWA Women’s Super 8 will be Brady Hicks and A Very Good Professional Wrestler, winner of the 2020 Super 8. The event will stream live on IWTV and a limited number of tickets are available now.
