Ty Is Awesome…Ty Is Dead

PCA, One Mean Team make huge impact at ECWA’s 51st Anniversary Show.

Perhaps it was friendly fire, or maybe AJ Pan has finally chosen a side in the PCA civil war.

ECWA Heavyweight Champion Mike Law and comrade Azrieal couldn’t stay on the same page in the triple threat main event with Ty Awesome last Saturday. Within a minute of their double teaming, they began bickering over who leads the notorious faction. Awesome took advantage of their dysfunction and crashed onto the entire PCA at ringside, creating a ripple effect throughout the front row of the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, Delaware.

Each man went on the offensive at various points in the match, breaking any allegiances that may have been expected. In the final moments, Awesome hit his trademark 450 Splash onto Law and made the cover. Before the referee could count, Azrieal hit a double stomp off the top rope onto Awesome. Poised to win back his title, Azrieal was about to finish the job, but Pan hopped on the apron and offered early congratulations. That allowed Law to charge his teammate from behind, knocking Pan off the apron and rolling up Azrieal (with a hefty yank of his tights) for the victory.

Understandably irate, Azrieal took out his frustration on the wrong man – he left Awesome barely conscious after hitting a brainbuster and frog splash. As “Ty Is Awesome” chants echoed throughout the building, Azrieal snapped back with “Ty Is Dead!”

Not exactly the happy ending that everybody wanted from ECWA’s 51st Anniversary Show, but fans definitely got their money’s worth from the most underrated team in wrestling today: Brian Johnson, Justin Pusser and Miss Jasmine. One Mean Team retained their ECWA Tag Team Titles against Ricky Martinez and Kekoa in a match that rivals anything you’ll see at BOLA. The challengers took control early on, but as usual, the champions quickly turned the tide behind the referee’s back. Johnson and Pusser made frequent tags, cutting off the ring and attacking Martinez’ arm. Eventually, Kekoa received the hot tag and entered the ring like a house of fire, knocking the champions to the outside and following each of them with dives to the floor.

Back inside the ring, Martinez summoned the strength to powerslam Johnson and make the cover, but Jasmine pulled the ref out in the nick of time. Thus, she was ejected from ringside to the delight of the crowd. Pusser retaliated by splashing the ref in the corner, knocking him unconscious. Martinez and Kekoa continued the chaos with a codebreaker/frog splash combo, but there was nobody to count the pin. Suddenly, Chris Wylde emerged from the back and assaulted the challengers, leaving them easy pickings for One Mean Team.

After the bout, Wylde announced that the ECWA Tag Team Titles would now be defended under the One Mean Rule, meaning any members of #DRAW can defend the belts. After breaking his wrist in a match with Joe Gacy in May, Wylde also announced that he refuses to compete unless he’s challenging for the heavyweight title.

Speaking of Gacy, he defended the ECWA Mid-Atlantic Championship against Joey Ace, the latter’s in-ring debut in the company. And what an impression he made – striking the champion as soon as he entered the ring, and never stopping the assault. Playing to the crowd is par for the course in the family-friendly environment, but Ace was all business, targeting Gacy’s leg and smashing it into the steel post. The maniac finally recovered and delivered a Lethal Injection, but Pan draped Ace’s foot on the bottom rope to break up the pin. Gacy then took the fight to the outside, brawling into the fans for a double countout.

In other action, Mr. Ooh La La overcame the mammoth Beefcake to earn five minutes in the ring with his arch nemesis Magnum. Adam Chandler defeated Marcus Waters after Jasmine’s distraction. Sammi Pandora made Gemma Cross tap out. And in his ECWA debut, the Funky White Boy pinned Rob Ziccardi aka Robbie Illuminati.

ECWA returns to the Asbury United Methodist Church in New Castle, DE, on October 13.
