Don Callis’ 9 Impact Stars To Watch
The Executive Vice President of Impact Wrestling named a handful of potential faces of the company.
The Executive Vice President of Impact Wrestling has a knack for spotting talent. Before he was in the boardroom, Don Callis was managing in WWE as The Jackal, leading such greats like Kurrgan, Recon and The Oddities to the ring.
Alright, this isn’t Kayfabe News. Let’s get down to business.
In May, Callis gave the “State of IMPACT” during a teleconference with the media. After fielding questions regarding the future of the company’s relationship with Lucha Underground and Alberto El Patron’s fallout, he was asked who could be the future face of the brand.
Whereas most business leaders would give a diplomatic answer about endless opportunity for everyone, the former Cyrus the Virus has never been afraid to speak his mind. Unable to pinpoint just one name, he offered several candidates throughout the teleconference.
Austin Aries
Obviously the first person that comes to mind, especially after he won the Impact World Title on his first night back in the company. “Austin is a guy you can build a promotion around. He’s very Nick Bockwinkle-esque, very cerebral.”
Moose
“People absolutely love him everywhere he goes. He is a legit bigtime athlete, a former offensive lineman, probably one of the great transitions from football to wrestling. I’d have to go back to my old days watching the AWA and Russ Francis, a tight end for the New England Patriots, used to wrestle in the off season cause his dad Ed Francis at one point ran the Hawaii territory.”
Sami Callihan
“He’s a great wrestler who doesn’t back down. He moves full speed ahead and is a fascinating character. People remember guys like Raven back in the day in ECW. That complex character that is fundamentally flawed and imperfect, but you can’t take your eyes off him.”
Eddie Edwards
A former world champion, Edwards has certainly seen an attitude change to back up his explosiveness in the ring. “If we can get Eddie thinking about something other than Sami, he would be a good face of the company.”
Brian Cage
As his world tour of mass destruction continues, The Machine remains undefeated in Impact. “He’s someone people are very excited about.”
DJZ
“He’s a great young guy, a great athlete and tremendous talent. He has his own heart wrenching story to tell. This has been a redemption year for him as well, and he looks to be better than 100%. He’s a guy that young people get real excited about. He has a real coolness about him.”
Rosemary
When listing Knockouts as a potential face of the company, Rosemary was the first name out of Callis’ mouth. She doesn’t fit the cookie-cutter mold of WWE’s women’s division, which has only enhanced her appeal and notoriety on the indie scene. From her war with the Hardyz to her feud with Taya Valkyrie to her most recent saga with Su Yung, Rosemary has definitely been a staple of the company.
Tessa Blanchard
“She is a phenomenal talent. At her age, to be as advanced and polished as she is, she calls herself the total package, and she really is. She’s smart and beautiful and dangerous. None of that should surprise us given who her dad and stepdad are.”
Su Yung
“People are talking about her.”
